EAD lost its validity the moment your GC was approved so it serves no purpose now. 

 

Even though it is a requirement to carry your GC  at all times -and not doing so is actually a misdemeanor- people rarely have it on themselves precisely for the same reason you do not want to carry yours: it is such a precious thing that no one wants to risk losing. 

 

If you have a real driver's license/ ID it should be "enough" and less scary to carry and potentially lose.

Green card trumps EAD. What's even better for work purposes - unrestricted SS card (hopefully you went back to SSA once you received your GC to remove restriction) and a valid drivers' license. Absolutely no need to show GC for employment purposes - and you as an employee get to decide what sort of documents to show to satisfy I-9 for e-verify.
