Is there a way to move my UK pension to the US?
jp1000 replied to jp1000's topic in Tax & Finances During US Immigration
You can transfer it from UK -> Malta -> US? Are there any guides on this? -
I have a pension with Nest. It doesn't have much in it, a little over £6,000, but I would like to roll this over into the US, either into my 401k or into an IRA. Does anybody have any experience with this? I've been trying to read up on it online but have not really been able to find any solid answers, at least that I understand.

I have had my conditional greencard approved and so don't need to deal with USCIS until the i751. When I entered the US on my K1 I handed the inspection officer my packet and after examining it he asked me a few questions, one of which was asking me to explain the casual drugs use. I've never used drugs and told him as such, there was something scrawled that I glanced I could just barely see 'casual drugs' - all that I can think of is that in the medical I was asked if I used drugs and said no and maybe they wrote that down in bad handwriting. But he also asked me if it had anything to do with being arrested - I've never been arrested and told him that too. Clean police certificate. I didn't press it at the time because I went from thinking he was making a joke, to 'uh #######?', to being relieved he let me in really fast and never gave it much thought. But I'm really curious to see if that's in my USCIS file and to see if I can make any sense of it. I'm also quite curious how much of my initial K1 packet is in my USCIS file, including if they have my spouses divorce cert because they gave me a 221(g) for that but then issued the visa before I could send it to them. But this is just me being nosey. So I'd like to do a FOIA but I'm nervous that it could be some kind of 'red flag' when I come to file i761 or n-400 - does anybody know?

When to obtain police certificate
jp1000 replied to visaopt123's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
I obtained mine after we received the NOA2. -
It's worded badly, I took it to mean that the OP and her fiance have decided that they want to marry so don't want to "waste time" not submitting the i129 and want to submit ASAP.

For this I just asked my GP to print my patient summary. And also print a list of all my previous vaccines on file. I can't advice specifically on any mental health issues.

Passport Photo for Beneficiary
jp1000 replied to VisaSaurus's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
I took a passport style photo of myself with my phone in front of a cream wall, sent it to my then fiancée. She got it printed in the US from a local place that would print it in a passport style. -
Forms filling issues
jp1000 replied to Dart Lobo's topic in Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas
If you use Firefox and are familiar with their developer tools you can remove the disabled="" from the <input> tags to write in them, as well as change maxlength attribute where it doesn't let you type enough numbers for a phone number etc. That's how I've been doing it but another issue I noticed with some of these forms is that some of the fields that you enter info in can print blank if you print from certain PDF preview applications. If I print from browser it's okay but I don't own a printer and had to have them printed at Office Depot, so be sure to go through them with a fine tooth comb after printing to make sure everything is filled in. -
They would only get a 10 year green card if they had been married for over 2 years when filing. If they marry then apply for a CR-1 they get 2 year greencard and must remove conditions later.

Heh true. When I was going through it the London embassy website said to bring an I-864 to the interview when really it's the I-134.

I am currently in the K1 'limbo' process and I certainly do feel a little stress about anything going wrong with the i-485, be that a rejection or an RFE or just anything really. The CR-1 is obviously the superior visa but I will say that I don't regret that we did the K1 because when we got married we got to 'start our life together'. I would hate to get married and then have to depart and live Long Distance. Obviously though some people will have different opinions to this and that's fine, people must choose the option that's right for them. It does also seem to me from browsing this site and /r/USCIS (and my own situation) that the EAD seems to be being approved really fast when adjusting status now.
