DCF for spouse in Singapore

Hi,

My husband and I live in Singapore.  I recently lost my high paying job and my husband's company is likely relocating him to the US in Jan/Feb 2023.  I need to go back to the US to get employment.

With these two circumstances, and the fact we have lived overseas in Singapore for approx 5+ years, I would like apply via DCF.  Does this sound right to meet the criteria?  Has anyone else done this in Singapore and how long does it take, roughly?  It would be great to see timelines as we pull all of our docs together.

TIA!

Who is the USC?

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

A few details on my situation:

1) our company closed local offices and everyone was made redundant on October 31 (we were notified in August)

2) I am applying for jobs in the US and in the last throes of getting my offer finalized

3) My husband's company wants him to relocate to the US in February(ish) but wants him to have a green card first to make it easier for them internally to approve the role

Neither of us have the formal offer yet, but it will come fast and furious. I do have my redundancy letter which shows I am currently unemployed (hence the need to go back to the US urgently!)

We have lived in Singapore over 5+ years, so the jurisdiction of filing is not an issue.

I am just concerned maybe the 'urgency' is not enough.  Do I need to wait for an official offer?  Should I send my paperwork and details to the embassy here to state my case?  Any advice?

They seem accommodating, but I am nervous!

Thanks for any advice all!

Does anyone know if termination in your foreign country of residence counts as 'exceptional circumstance' to qualify for DCF?  (e.g., can't earn money unless we imminently relocate back to the US!)  Any success in this arena without a formal job offer back in the US yet?

the list of exceptional circumstances is on USCIS, I’ll link it below. What you suggested above (not earning money) is not an exceptional circumstance and I haven’t personally seen that used as a reason here on vj. From what I have seen here, a formal job offer is a requirement, and even then it clearly states in the manual that it is at their discretion to accept, meaning they can choose not to accept your case even if it meets the criteria (but the a job offer seems to work in majority of cases)

it is done on a case-by-case basis. A lot of people will tell you about the need of a job offer, but I would be prepared to provide a lot of detail.

If you are no longer on any long-term pass in Singapore, then I would watch out for that. I think the official guide says residency may be taken into account, but by the sounds of it a lot of embassies around the world do actually take note of that.
