It's needed to receive letters from USCIS to the correct address, like the NOA2.

The Officer at my interview told me I didn’t need to keep updating my address anymore once a citizen. Plus, every other missing Notice will be visible on the USCIS online account.

Per law non citizens are required to keep their address updated.  No such law exists for citizens.

But for convenience, if you have an active petition you do need to update your address in order to receive mailed notifications.  Otherwise they will be sent to the previous address.

How are you a US citizen if you're the beneficiary of an I-130? I'm confused as to your actual status.

I'm not the beneficiary. My German spouse is the beneficiary and I've been living in Germany until recently as an expat.

Yes, I personally did it (twice) before I-130 was approved (F4 category so long wait time). No issues. I-797 letters from USCIS in both cases confirming address change.

Hi there milimelo, thanks again for your advice. I sent in I-865 last week and have still not heard back. Do you remember how much time it took to get the I-797 confirming your address change? Did it prompt any action on your pending visa/s?

Mine was in 2011 and 2012 as we moved and didn't take more than a month-45 days to get the confirmation letter. I think after the second letter the I-130 was approved but still at NVC as PD still not current. Nowadays with USCIS delays it could take a bit longer, I'm afraid.

Oh wow, why are things so slow, actually? Is there still a backlog from the pandemic period?
