Jump into my truck, and it's as pristine as it was on day one, 99% of the time.  She does the inside, I do the outside.

Although it's rough to gave a dentist who works 2 days a week paint pictures of  The keys life while you swelter on a 120 degree parking lot.

Even more so a guy that works 2 days a month and has a super model wife who washes his trunk in a bikini.  I just ad lib the bikini part but probably.

Both of them dang it

Come on down and we can all hit the beach, go out on the water, and take in the party scene in Key West.

Sorry, just realized it might be a little too much for an old guy...LOL

Currently planning our summer vacation.  Had to give up the idea of a trip to the Baltic countries and Russia for a couple of reasons.

Looking at spending a wonderful time exploring the highlights of middle Georgia.

Will have to rethink the middle GA trip as my research indicates there is absolutely nothing of interest to see or do there.

Having "been there, done that", I would agree.  Better off at the 2nd home.  I'll take out a loan and pay for boat gas if ye want company!

He lives in TX, and the $700 figure was pre-EV, just for the house (mostly A/C I'm guessing.  Maybe a pool, not sure?)

I did some napkin math on the cost difference between my truck and his Tesla (about $35k) and his solar installation (about $43k after $12k tax break), and it will take about 50 years for him to break even.  Of course, we will both need new vehicles before then, but I will need fewer than he will, obviously.

If he went full solar he spent way more then that.

We looked into solar and our highest  bill in the summer was about 370. We wanted to be 100% solar no electric bills and we were quoted much more than that and it would be 25 yrs of payments of 199. That was after the tax breaks too. They also had a contract with the city so if we made more then we used and could store it would roll over and could withdraw it our use it to pay down the loan.  This was pre covid so by now I'm sure prices have gone up. We did not go through with it as paying that much for a house we did not want to stay in was just not a bright idea.

It has been eye opening shopping for homes in AZ.  A high percentage (over 10 percent) of homes have solar panels and most of those have a leased solar panel arrangement.

Scam 1: Sellers expect buyers to take over the lease for which they have to qualify with a credit pull.  As a retiree with zero taxable income I would never qualify so in my offers I’ve told the seller they have to convey their home unencumbered to me.

I told one seller to cancel the lease and tell the solar company to come collect their garbage. The panel companies won’t repossess the panels: the lease contract comes with a cancellation for fee clause and the homeowner is left with useless eyesore.  Can you imagine leasing a car where if you stopped paying the lease the dealer comes to your garage, removes the engine and cements the car to your garage floor? Well that’s the solar panel lease business model.

Scam 2: I had a roof inspection on one of these homes.  It turns out roofers don’t install solar panels on roofs and solar panel companies aren’t good at roofing.

Problems include causing leaks when improperly fastening solar panels to roofs or leaving insufficient space between the bottom of the panel and the top of the roof to service the roof tiles (clay / concrete tiles tend to come loose or break)

Scam 3: people with solar panels are often paying crazy electric bills. Electricity in most of Arizona is a 1/5th what it is of California and so I would expect significantly lower electric bills. But one home with panels had bills in excess of $500 a month.  There’s no actual evidence solar works and as noted in this thread, the panels degrade over time.

If you want solar, invest in a company that manages large commercial arrays of panels and sells electricity to utilities. Your investment should be 25 times your annual electric bill. Use the dividends and/or share appreciation to pay your electric bill: withdraw 4 percent annually from your investment.  If this investment can’t sustain itself to to cover your electric bills then you know even commercial solar isn’t practical.

EVs are ethical.  Residential solar is not ethical.

So true on the panels

They tried to tell us about the leasing too and that was just nuts. Trying to sell a house with a lease on it did not sound like a good plan.

We have a metal roof and the though of them putting holes in it to install panels just sent shivers up my back.

The company we talked to did sell to the city, but they also had a cap on how much we could roll over or withdraw from.
