That's a bomber.

Maybe try to think about it this way -- if you paid the fee, it's likely (not guaranteed) the beneficiary will receive their work authorization a couple weeks faster than if you applied for the waiver, which is time they could start working and earning money.

Yes, hopefully it's faster this way. Thanks

You could try a call. Pretty sure you will need to at least get to tier 2 customer service to get someone that can actually look into the case.

I think others in this situation have created new cases and had them process through fine. Your mileage may vary....

Thank you Kineo for your reply.  I think the issue is that my wife's daughter already had a USCIS Account and an A-Number.  I used her email address for her and her daughter while when completing the husband's and grandson's applications I used the husband's email address and he does not have an A-Number or USCIS Account.

Are you suggesting that I complete a second I-134 for the husband and grandson?  If I go this route I would use the mother's (wife's daughter's) email account.

Thanks again!

Hi all,

I need some advice. I applied for the U4U for a family, and one of their children had their Ukraine passport renewed after the travel document was issued, and they did not enter the US yet. The current passport has a new passport number. Should I start the process over for the child and submit everything again with the new passport number? The child is age 5.

Take both

Hi. Thank you for your response. Are you saying that the family should go ahead and plan travel and take both the 1) old passport and 2) the new passport?

The old passport is officially expired, but the Ukraine authorities did handwrite in it that it is extended for another number of years. This handwritten note is also accompanied by an official stamp.

I suggested to my brother that this may not work, and that it would be better to get an official unexpired passport with a valid date on the biographic page. The new passport came with a different passport number, which was unexpected.

I doubt it would be an issue even if you did not have the old passport but with both I do not see what the problem is.

Thank you. The only reason why I suspected that it may be an issue is that because the old passport number (from expired passport) is on the Travel Document that USCIS issued.

Kostyaby,

So, let me tell you that at least in our case, under the exact same circumstances you identified (I think), my U4U beneficiaries processed last Monday through Washington Dulles without any difficulty.

Specifically, a mother traveled with her minor child.  The minor child had that same nominally expired passport (per ID page), but with the passport extension stamp (provided by Ukrainian authorities) placed on an interior page, with handwritten extension until 2024.  This "old" passport number was also listed on the U4U travel authorization letter.

But after the travel authorization letter was issued, she received a surprise new Ukrainian passport with a new passport number.

So, what my beneficiary did, was simply not show this new passport to anyone, anywhere.  Instead, the mother showed the child's old passport with the extension stamp at every step.  She was prepared to drag out the new passport in extremis... but such a need never arose.

YMMV

Thank you for the response, very informative! Do you happen to know if the plane tickets were bought under the old or new passport?

I would highly recommend having both old and new passport. The old one would tie all the paperwork together.

I agree completely!  I was anxious at all stages of their travel, and tried to imagine and prepare them for every possible contingency.  Luckily, nothing particularly challenging materialized.

I bought the plane tickets, and in the case of the child (with old and new passports), the tickets were bought under the old passport.

I called the airlines ahead of time (Lufthansa and United) to enter the Travel Auth Number into their system, just to try to smooth everything in every possible way.

Experience showed me that it took several tries to get a reliable person on the other end, regarding Lufthansa.

The new passport was never mentioned or shown.
