I was born in New York, USA in 1992. However my parents moved to India permanently in around 1993 when I was just 1 year old. I went back to India on a US passport which was issued to me when I was an infant.

I am residing in India since the past 30 years and have never gone back to USA

I a US birth certificate, SS number and a US passport was issued to me when I was an infant to travel to India.

I would be turning around 30 this year and I want to know how can I renew my US passport? I do not have any other documents than that above. Please guide

Pls guide

Of course you're a USC. Schedule an appointment at the nearest US embassy to you, take expired PP and BC (just incase) and get it renewed. Easy peazy

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

As a USC you are American by birth and your parents issued a social security number and birth certificate for you. If you no longer have the original passport you can still apply for a new one with your social and birth cert. At the closets  consulate/embassy to you. Everything can be done at the consulate(issuing your passport)!

10/19/22 : Approval for DCF granted

10/28/22 : I-130 petition sent to consulate

10/31/22 : Consulate received I-130 petition

11/16/22 : I-130 petition approved. Packet 3 received

11/18/22 : Packet 3 sent via email

11/21/22 : Packet 3 accepted / Request for interview Approved

11/22/22: Interview scheduled for Dec.

12/12/22: Medical completed

12/27/22: Visa Interview / 221g issued

1/18/23: Consulate received requested document

1/25/23: CAEC status changed from refuse to issued

1/27/23: Passport picked up

2/5/23: Paid immigration fee (OS155A)

Make an appointment with Citizen Services at the embassy and they can renew it.
I’m sure you have been faithfully filing your taxes / FBAR every year.  👍

Hello,

Also I have no documents except old passport /SS Number /and US passport issued in infancy . Are these sufficient to fill passport renewal form and apply for passport renewal? (Example : currently I do not have any postal address in the STATES)

I have been staying in India since the last 29 years and have never visited US

Just want to update that I was not filing Taxes / FBAR every year while I was in India. What can be the implications due to this?

Also my middle name and surname on my indian identity proof and address proof documents is different from my middle name and surname in my US birth Certificate

You don't need to file taxes when you were not here. You are still a USC. Talk to the us immigration services. This platform does offer incorrect information often so please don't count on it and do whats best for you

2)I was not filing Taxes / FBAR every year while I was in India. (Last 29 years) What can be the implications due to this?

3) My middle name and surname on my indian identity proof and address proof documents is different from my middle name and surname in my US birth Certificate

PLEASE let me know how should I proceed in these circumstances?? Thanks

1. Download and print DS-11 . Passport application. Read it carefully and see the small print on link to additional info for Name Changes to get an idea of acceptable evidence.

2. Remember you will be dealing with the US Embassy and may find a helpful soul to walk you through meeting your burden of Proving you are the baby in the photo.

3. Why did your parents change your name? Are they alive and can provide affidavits?

4. Get records of anything related to the name change.

YOU most definitely are a US Citizen , but you need to prove it. Once you gather as much proof to show the name change , MAKE A COPY of passport/ birth certificate and all your documents and get an appointment to the Embassy..to begin your ADVENTURE. ..Ask if they will review the proof of identity/ name change documentation and if it’s good enough.

Good luck and don’t give up.

Do you have your birth certificate?

Your parents names are on your birth certificate and you have record of your parents in India as well?

You’ll want to walk in there with a legal trail tying your US birth certificate to your Indian parentage however you ARE a USC and it’s just paperwork.

Your expired passport is a good start.  Your parentage is also listed somewhere in DOS records.

FBAR is rough, the consulate held a special meeting for all the KSA American expats about bank accounts and declaring them.  Penalties for non-compliance are severe.

As far as filing US taxes failure to file ranges from no consequence if your foreign earned income is below the maximum threshhold to full interest and penalties due on what’s owed if you exceeded the threshhold.  No way to tell.  Either way I’d read the rules thoroughly and try to figure out your tax situation (lot of US tax experts in India and it’s worth it to talk to one).  A lot of people in your situation toss their citizenship over taxes and FBAR.

You have a long path to get everything caught up and up to date.  Citizenship is never lost but comes stapled to a high price tag.
