How to Estimate Processing Times

Can someone assist with understanding processing times.  I received notice my spouse's visa application was approved (October 6, 2021).  The case was sent to the Department of State on (October 9, 2021).  All required documents were submitted on December 1, 2021.  When are we eligible to send in a inquiry regarding the status of our case?  The visa bulletins we receive from the USCIS Case Tracker App are confusing and the Youtube videos are even worse.  😢

Thanks in advance,

Ricca

The visa bulletin does not apply to immediate relatives of US citizens.  A visa number is immediately available.  It appears you are still within the normal NVC time  frame.  Patience is the key.  Once NVC has approved the documents you sent, the case will become "document qualified"  Your case will then enter the queue for your consulate at NVC.  When your case reaches the front of that queue, NVC will schedule your interview, notify you, and send the case to the consulate.

By the way, once your case has been sent to the Department of State (NVC), USCIS is no longer involved.

They're currently reviewing documents submitted November 18.

You have a couple more weeks of waiting ahead of you.

Yep. @Ricca711 hopefully you'll be DQed after first review.

But, if anything is missing/ incorrect you will have to re-submit documents and you'll return to the end of the queue and have to wait another 3 or so months...

Then after being DQ'ed you'll wait to get an interview at the embassy.

Ghana has a big backlog. Looking at timelines a member just received an interview date of March 9, 2022 and was DQed May 19, 2020.

Hello,

I appreciate all of the replies.  Just now I received notification that all of our documents have been accepted ☺️ However, we did receive one message that they need the original divorce decree from my first marriage.  I submitted that document in 2020 to USCIS with the original application.  Why are they asking for it again?  I mean, I have it and can submit it, but does that mean we still will be moved to the end of the queue again? 😞

You need to submit all the documents they request.

From my understanding USCIS and NVC aren't really connected so sometimes you have to submit the same documents at different times.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you were required to upload your marriage certificate to NVC even though you submitted it to USCIS with the I-130?

You will most likely be sent to the back of the line again. Although sometimes people are lucky and their documents are reviewed sooner.

Thank you Kor2USA for your response.  I just submitted the divorce decree.  To answer your question, I was required to upload the marriage certificate and the divorce decree to USCIS with the initial I-130 application.  NVC only asked for the Affidavit of Support and supporting documents such as tax returns, pay stubs and w-2's.  Well, nevertheless, I hope I have submitted everything they have asked for.

Thanks for the answer. We haven't reached NVC stage yet so I am worried about being asked to upload a document after first submission.

Seems like everyone gets tripped up by something.

Ask your question here:

But, I think you need to wait until 2023 before interview unless they can clear the backlog.
