Hello All,

My Fiance has her interview in Manila near the end of February.

I would like to get her health insurance that starts when she arrives but would like to have proof of insurance when she goes to her interview.

What do you all use or suggest?

I am self employed and have ACA on myself but they claim they can't add her to me until she gets her LPR

Thanks.......

You can add her once she has her NoA 1 from filing to adjust.

There are poor options for new immigrants but not sure I would recommend any of them.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Why?

I did spouse visa so it may be a little different and I have insurance through my employer. I added my wife and children to my insurance shortly after they arrived and had to take my son to the ER to have stitches removed (that were put in in the Philippines before we left) before they even finished processing them. It was covered with no problem.

They are not married.

That does not answer why he needs to add her before the interview.

I also don't get why she needs to have US health insurance when she goes for her visa interview. Who's requiring that?

After you get married in the States, she should be able to get health insurance even without LPR status or an SSN. Escalate to a supervisor if needed.

Well he is self employed on ACA so I understand that part.

Not clear on requirement for insurance before interview.  If you are talking about AOS interview don't worry that thing is more than a year down the road.  We are at 14 months and still waiting on interview.

I don't think it is a requirement to have her insured by the interview date.....

I would like to have her insured the minute she steps foot  on American soil, and I figured if asked at the interview, she can show proof of being insured...

We weren't exactly the same since my wife and step daughter are CR-1/2 but they arrived on October 26 and I got them ACA insurance in California that started November 1.  It was only like a week but I got a cheap travel insurance policy to cover the gap.  I have no idea how it would have played out if anything happened and we had to make a claim but for a short period it was cheap and seemed prudent.

It is not a requirement and she will not be asked. If you want to get them insured by the time they land that is fine but don't let the interview factor in.
