Hi all,

I have a couple of questions before my interview in London on Oct 13.

My husband lost his job during covid when we uploaded his AOS documents so now he just got a new job and we've filled in a new form I-864, and my police certificate has expired, but a new one is on the way. So Do i upload the new form i-864 and police certificate (when it arrives) to CEAC now or should i wait after my interview ?

My concern is that if i do upload the docs onto CEAC now and then have to wait for months for NVC to review, they maybe cancel my interview or mess something up, we are so close to the end now, i dont want to make any mistakes.

Can someone whom has gone through this shed some light with me please? THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!

bring the expired police certificate

When was it issued? Because they are now valid for 2 years: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-5-collect-financial-evidence-and-other-supporting-documents/step-7-collect-civil-documents.html

Important: Police certificates expire after two years, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued.

It's now 2 years: https://lawandborder.com/police-certificates-now-valid-for-2-years-says-u-s-state-dept/

Effective June 15, 2021, the U.S. State Department has extended the validity of police certificates to 2 years. See 9 FAM 504.4-4(A) and NVC Immigrant Visa Process–Step 7. Collect Civil Documents.

This is the pre-interview checklist for the US Embassy in London, it still says one year, I’m so confused ??

The pre-interview checklist is outdated. But if the CO thinks there is a crime that occurred after the certificate was issued then the CO could request a newer one. The DOS policy applies worldwide: https://fam.state.gov/fam/09FAM/09FAM050404.html

Police certificates are valid for two years from the date of their issuance. This includes police certificates from any country visited or inhabited subsequent to the previous clearances but does not apply to police certificates from an area to which the applicant has not returned since previous clearances. Consular officers may request updated police certificates if there is a concern that an individual has a more recent police record that should be reviewed. Any other supporting documents that are subject to change, except for police certificates, are valid for one year.

The most important thing is bring the original that matches whatever is uploaded.  Example—-if the upload is the older police certificate, then don’t show up with only the newer one in hand that does not match what is in your file online. Somebody posted they provided a different version of a birth certificate at the interview than what was on file. That was rejected and so visa delayed.

Got it, will bring both the old and new for I-846 and police certificate.

Thank you!

Thank you!

If you want to present a new I-864, then upload it. They don’t need to see originals of I-864 at the interview. They want to see original (or certified) civil documents of the beneficiary like birth certificates, marriage/divorce documentation, police certificate, etc.
