I keep seeing mixed responses about this, some people have had issues writing in n/a, some leaving it blank. When I filed for AOS, my lawyer left blank spaces, but we are filing without a lawyer this time. USCIS instructions say to write in n/a when needed.

Which one is it then?

sometimes depends on the questions itself

my husband had no middle name so i left it blank as his green card would have had N/A for middle name/  i saw that on here

but when listing children and there were none i put N/A or None as sometimes the form will not allow   the / mark

Yes, we have no children so I wanted to put N/A but where do I write that? The first space to write children is "Family Name" . If I put NA there, wouldn't they just think that NA is for the family name only?

I put N/A on the first box and left all subsequent boxes related to that category blank.

the write none or leave blank / u have already answered the number of people sponsored in an earlier spot

I left a lot of questions blank like assets as i didn't need to include them and if i had put none it would have meant i didn't have any so blank was it a lot on my form

Leave blank.
