Is anyone applying for citizenship soon prior to receiving the approval of this application to remove conditions? Just curious, I want to apply for citizenship but wasn’t sure what the best practice is, wait longer? Or just do it?

August...My wife will apply as soon as she is eligible.

Not a newbie but lost my old info years ago) I have been through this process before --all the way through naturalization-- This site has always been a great help to me.

Hey all - I really appreciate you sharing your experiences and progress. I’ll be filing with my wife soon. Sorry if this should be its own thread but I have couple questions about what your early process was. 1) How far away was your GC expiration when you submitted your packet? My wife’s expires in early November and I’d like to get everything out the door as soon as the 90 day window hits. 2) Did you submit an affidavit of support? The form makes it seem kind of necessary but we’re a typical married couple living together, all finances co-mingled, joint everything etc. Is the affidavit of support more of a cherry on top or is it something that’s more standard now? 3) Are most interviews being waived for those who have already been interviewed? We went the K1 route and were interviewed already when establishing residence (I got extremely anxious with the first one and would rather not re-live that feeling despite our case being pretty standard!)

Again sorry to hijack this thread but I’d love to hear from those who have applications in process. Good luck to all!

We mailed our I-751 2 days after the window opened. Double check the date you are eligible to file and mail it on that date or after (not worth the risk to mail it early - it will get rejected if it is even a day too soon).

You do not submit a new affidavit of support. Not sure where you are seeing this, but the I-864 they already have on file is still in effect.

Here is a post I made with our cover letter and everything we sent: https://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/773554-november-2021-roc-filers/?do=findComment&comment=10566777

Also yes those that went through AOS seem to get their interviews waived. Biometrics is usually waived as well but you do still have to include the biometric fee + filing fee when sending your packet.

Thank you so much! The bit about the affidavit I’m referring to is in the instructions form: https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-751instr.pdf It says “should include, but not limited to”. We never did one for her initial GC.

Those affidavits refer to letters from friends and family stating that you are a genuine couple. They are a pretty weak line of evidence if you have the other things (joint finances/insurance/lease or mortgage/beneficiary on retirement accounts etc) and I think you are safe to skip them. We didn't send any for the initial adjustment of status and had no issues, didn't send any this round either.

I'm planning to apply for citizenship in September also.

Alright folks, please set me straight. Lol. When is the expiration date of the extension letter? My letter stated notice date: 09/25/21

The notice also states "Your conditional permanent resident status is extended for 24 months from the expiration date on your Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card also known as a Green Card).

My gc expired in 11/2021. So the extension means it is valid till next year 11/2023, right?

*Can't wait to file N400 in August!

Lol. I just missed my driver's license. It says there the exact expiration date. When I got my extension letter, I renewed my license and they followed the extension letter and the date of my original green card.

I expected the DMV to do that, too. My husband's first driver's license expired with his green card. When he went to renew it, he took the expired green card and the extension letter, so I expected another two year renewal of his license. Instead, they renewed it for the usual four years!

I'd call that a win :) One less thing to worry about while ROC is processing.

Yes! If all goes well, he'll be a citizen before his license expires!

That is great! It also depends on each state. I live in Atlanta. He got lucky then, less worry! 😀

The state does make a difference. The downside, for use, was that he couldn't get his license until he had his EAD. In some states, it's not necessary.  Think about the many stages of this that are behind us!
