For most cases (and of course there are exceptions) hiring a lawyer is paying someone to ask you questions you already know the answers to.

No, it doesn't depend on how much you pay a lawyer.  No matter how much they get paid, lawyers cannot make a visa number available for their client if the PD is not current for the visa category.

The only thing an attorney does for an uncomplicated case is :

1.  Fill in the paperwork with information YOU have to dig up and provide.

2.  Attach documents which YOU have to find and provide

3.  Submit the package.

 

Things an attorney cannot do:

1.  Make the process quicker.

2.  Guarantee approval.

 

You still have to do all the leg work.  YOU are still responsible for every entry on the forms.  YOU have to accept whatever priority the attorney places on your case.
