Question:  Am i eligible or should i apply for  GC Extension in parallel while Citizenship is in processing.

Detail Situation information below:

I have applied for Citizenship,(i.e. 11 months  before  GC expires)
On USCIS website, it says my
Citizenship status as  estimate approximately 14 months  &
GC status is current for next around 7 months(i.e. March 2022)
question is:
I'm think would be best to apply for GC extension(first time) before 6 months of GC expiration
To be on Safer side, Is it legal to apply (or) Am I eligible to apply (or) should i at all apply for GC extension
But not sure while citizenship is in progress, we can apply for GC extension

one other thing: on USCIS website, uscis mentioned is they will use previous biometrics applied to my case for citizenship processing the

Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

You can if you want but it's not the GC extension but the renewal. Unless you are planning to go abroad after your GC expiry while your N400 is pending, i don't see a reason in wasting around $500 for the renewal.

Instead of submitting I-90 application you call them to request an appointment for an ADIT stamp: https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-12-part-d-chapter-2 "Though USCIS may issue temporary evidence of LPR status in the form of an Alien Documentation Identification and Telecommunication (ADIT) stamp, USCIS does not provide such stamps to applicants with a pending Form N-400 unless they filed a Form I-90 or filed Form N-400 more than 6 months before the expiration of his or her PRC."

Thank you  each of you on your inputs Arken, HRQX, & Dashinka.
please confirm the following:
1. So i m eligible to apply for GC renewal??      (I wanted to apply for renewal but was not sure. should i  apply GC renewal only before 6 months expiration? Do you  know, if i can get GC renewal approval within 6 months? )
I'm not planning to go out of US with pending statuses or with current GC status.
2. I have no idea of  what these new terms  such as ADIT stamp, submitting I-90  app,.  Any links/Information on these will be very helpful.
3. Was not clear with what OP stands for  "OP should try to get free ADIT stamp."

Kinda nervous with the situation. Any wise thoughts/comments from each of you would be a blessing for me.

OP = you, the Original Poster

ADIT stamp = a stamp that USCIS can put in your passport to serve as proof of your LPR status for 1 year

As mentioned above, it's not GC extension.  You may apply for GC renewal.  Instructions here -- https://www.uscis.gov/i-90

But in your case, filing an I-90 could be a waste of money, when you could get an ADIT stamp for free.  Call USCIS at 800-375-5283 to request an appointment for ADIT stamp.

We are saying you don't need to do the renewal. You can appear for your citizenship interview and oath with the expired GC. If you still want some sort of LPR evidence, you can get the i551 stamp on your passport from the uscis field office later that will serve as a GC for one year.

If you still want to renew your GC and throw away 500 dollars, you can do so through the link above. All you need is the scans of your GC.

Is your foreign passport still valid; and when does that passport expire?

Here is an example of ADIT stamp:

That stamp can either be placed on a valid passport or on a Form I-94 that USCIS will produce and stamp at the appointment you'll request.

The application for Green Card renewal is not needed in your case. It's just optional. I recommend you don't file that application and save that money (i.e. $540).

As mentioned above, filing I-90 is optional in your case. If you do file I-90 then the receipt notice serves as an extension letter: https://www.uscis.gov/news/alerts/uscis-to-replace-sticker-that-extends-validity-of-green-cards "When presented together with the Green Card, the revised Form I-797 notice will extend the Green Card’s validity for 12 months from the date on the front of the Green Card and will serve as temporary proof of the LPR’s status. This change ensures that LPRs with a recently expired Green Card will have documentation of identity, employment authorization, and authorization to return to the United States following temporary foreign travel."

I still recommend to wait until after the current GC expires in March 2022 and ask for the free I-551 stamp. At that time call USCIS at 800-375-5283 and request an appointment for the I-551 stamp.
