Per OPs topic, no, letters of invitation do not work. Taken straight from the Department of State:

Note: Visa applicants must qualify on the basis of the applicant's residence and ties abroad, rather than assurances from U.S. family and friends. A letter of invitation or Affidavit of Support is not needed to apply for a visitor visa. If you choose to bring a letter of invitation or Affidavit of Support to your interview, please remember it is not one of the factors used in determining whether to issue or deny the visa.

OP said he wrote a letter but has no idea whether or not it made a difference

I am sure you know full well the department of state officially says letters of invitation, affidavits of support etc are not taken into account - this is stated explicitly on their website.

I don’t think he does know that fact, lol……

Not being mean, but can you back up your stance? If there is a sponsorship letter format, please share it so that more people get their visas approved.

The one I read said he would take care of all and any expense during the trip.

There were 5 people approved, 2 older females living in Philippines which is normal. Then 3 more Filipino Citizens, single and around age 25 which I was surprised.

Yes, I have read it many times as well.

Just like the Philippines hasn't required I-134 for K1 for years, but I am sure it is written somewhere.

OP, if you go to the US Department of State and search about tourist visas, it will provide you with the info you need. Here’s the link: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/tourism-visit/visitor.html

As you can see, the applicant/s need to show strong ties to their home country, among other things. But also read what I posted about sponsorship letters. Don’t even waste your time doing that -it won’t help and they won’t even look at it. Instead, use that time to help applicants build a strong case. Good luck!

I am SO bored with people on VJ saying “ I know this or that person and they got approved because of a sponsorship letter”. How can you know when you weren’t in the interview? Having a letter does not mean it made any difference, any more than the color shoes one was wearing in the interview made a difference.

You know what I have NEVER seen on VJ? A person posting here their OWN experience of an interview where they were told in some way or other by the CO that a “sponsorship” or “invitation” letter made a difference to their being approved. If I have missed this rare beast, feel free to point it out to me.

Yes, I have read this many times in the past. So?

So that is the official stance and guess what, it counts for more than your hearsay. (By the way, “so” isn’t usually considered a proper rebuttal lol, at least not past the playground stage)

I honestly stopped arguing with this person the minute I read the question “…so?” After I presented factual documentation of what the Department of State says. Some people are going to argue no matter what I guess.

Here is actual CO who decide if you get approved for a Tourist Visa in the Philippines:

"Bring the documents that will support the purpose of the travel you intend to go on"  3:53 into video

"If somebody is paying for your travel and it isn't you, we may ask to see those document:  4:02

Right. And again, according to the US Department of State:

“You may show evidence that another person will cover some or all costs for your trip”.
This is not the same AT ALL as an invitation letter. What the US government wants to Make sure is that you’re not going to become a public charge during your trip. Let me give you an example:

Pablo is from Spain, and he wants to visit a friend in the United States, but he doesn’t have much money. Thus, his uncle Silvia is feeling generous and pays for the trip. Following the Department of State guidelines, Pablo goes to the interview and he brings his aunt’s credit card transactions, which show that the trip has already been paid for by her”.
That is not the same as If his friend had sent with an invitation letter. Plus, think about it: what’s the legality behind an invitation letter, which could have been written by anyone? Heck, it could even have been written by the same applicant.
