They were talking about ROC. A year after ROC, of course. OP won't have to bother with that.

It is IR1   there will be no ROC to go thru

The same happened to me at the NVC. We had our second wedding anniversary whist we were at the NVC. It’s normal and correct.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

not really

person has to be in the USA 3 years and live with spouse those 3 years

according to USCIS

https://www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learn-about-citizenship/citizenship-and-naturalization/i-am-married-to-a-us-citizen

  • Be a lawfully admitted permanent resident of the United States for at least three years immediately before the date you file Form N-400;

The hassle really comes in when you fall into the following situation:

1. You filed I-751 to remove conditions

2. The I-751 is still pending

3. You hit the 3 years minus 90 days when you become eligible to file N-400 and you file N-400

In case like this, you will most likely receive a combo interview where they will basically doubly scrutinize your marriage whereas most standalone I-751 do not get called for an interview unless something's fishy (i.e. poor documentation of marriage) and most N-400s do not scrutinize the marriage past the basic proof that you've been married and cohabited during the 3 year period.

Contradictions without citations only make you look dumb.
