I try not to take things so seriously. When I started posting here, I did, and it caused no end of me getting butthurt (by my own admission!!). Then I got A Small Talking To by someone very near to me (the one in the man cave) about how he wasn't thrilled with how I was reacting to everything. I adjusted accordingly. He was right (he loves it when I tell him that, because it's not always the case :P).

Many times when I feel strongly about something, I purposely do not engage on here because I don't want to keep banging my head against a brick wall. I know some people won't agree with me no matter how much data and facts and whatever I bring. Like, all the COVID stuff, which although I feel very strongly about it, I am just sort of done for the time being talking about.

I think we can think more broadly about what "current events" mean -- it's not always politics or politicized stuff. Like that identity theft cupcake woman, for example. It would be great if we could have more topics -- active topics -- where we weren't talking constantly about Biden or Trump or whatever. It's really boring after a while, which is sort of why I've not been around so much. Plus I've had a proper job for the past year, which of course eats into valuable posting time.

Now I shall step off my soapbox and go back to work....

Agree. Some subjects I just don't touch. You can present facts that put the fire out then 3 days later is like wham, it never happened.

Being alone in the clear free thinking middle of the road can be lonely.

BTW I follow this guy Jesse Crosson on FB reels. He went to prison as a young man and completely turned things around. Very inspiring and will make you think twice about prison reform.

Actually right now I have chimichurri chicken with asparagus and portobello mushrooms in the oven, and I'm quick pickling a red onion and jalapeno relish. :)

Let's just say that back in 2012, the gross revenue of this site was probably more than yours.  Perhaps even more than today, though I have no idea what a dentist makes these days.

An Arizona woman accused of illegally collecting early ballots in the 2020 primary election pleaded guilty Thursday in an agreement with state prosecutors that saw the more serious forgery and conspiracy charges dismissed and limited any potential for a lengthy prison sentence.

Guillermina Fuentes, 66, could get probation for running what Arizona Attorney General's Office investigators said was a sophisticated operation using her status as a well-known Democratic operative in San Luis to persuade voters to let her gather and, in some cases, fill out their ballots.

Um, okay. I know that we have very different opinions about COVID and the vaccines, and I never engage with you on it these days because it's really pretty pointless. I may disagree with you but I don't need to resort to language like "duped" no matter what I think of your take on things. That's kind of rude, honestly. And I have to say, my little meme about dad jokes spurred you into typing out something long... I mean, did I do something recently to irritate you? It just seems a bit out of the blue when it was clearly just a joke. And FYI, I haven't talked about my ex in this subforum in quite a while. I've moved on. Moving on is a good thing to do. :)

Yep, pointless is why I didn't post it.  If "duped" hurt your feelings, not my fault.  It is the most accurate, polite word I know of in this situation.

Covid was a tragedy from the time it was created until today.  What makes it a travesty is how it was politicized and used to control people.

"Duped" implies a degree of ignorance or stupidity on the part of the person who it's describing. It's not a polite word, frankly. We can disagree without insulting each other's intelligence. A polite way (which would still match your meaning) might be:

Quote

I was just wasting bandwidth because you and I will never agree on this.

We have -- I'm certain -- done our own reading and had our own discussions with people with greater knowledge than we do about the topic and come to very different conclusions. I don't agree with yours, and you don't agree with mine. I'm not sure why you decided to pull me into this all of a sudden when I have pointedly not engaged with you about anything COVID-related for quite a while. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it's because you wanted my viewpoint, but you already know mine. It hasn't changed. Nor has yours. That's okay.

I agree with you that it has been politicized and is being used to control people, but probably not in the way you think it has been. That's okay that we disagree on that, too.
