Netflix is indicted by a Texas grand jury over controversial film 'Cuties'

The #CancelNetflix social media campaign that kicked off with last month’s premiere of the controversial French film, Cuties, has quieted down in recent weeks. But now a new front has emerged in the battle between the movie’s critics and Netflix. Texas Representative Matt Schaefer announced on Twitter that a grand jury in Tyler County has formally indicted the company over Cuties and its alleged exploitation of the movie’s young stars.

“Netflix, Inc. indicted by grand jury in Tyler Co., Tx for promoting material in Cuties film which depicts lewd exhibition of pubic area of a clothed or partially clothed child who was younger than 18 yrs of age which appeals to the prurient interest in sex,” Schaefer wrote in his post.

I didn't say there was nothing wrong with it, I said I didn't think it was child pornography or exploitative. It's just not a terribly good film. I still haven't finished it, too dull. I started The Boys on Amazon Prime last night. Alex made me watch it -- he's already watched both seasons and rated it highly.

I dunno how far it'll get, but given child pornography laws clearly set aside some of the arguments that would be levied as a defense, and that it's Texas, not totally sure.

Well, I gave in. I was actually really irritated, because I was trying to go to sleep and he turned the TV on and said, okay Lay, time for you to watch something better than Normal People (which was pretty good! and had a LOT of sex in it, if you are into seeing things like that). And he jacked up the volume to 30 on purpose to get my attention. I got quite grumpy and said what are you, geriatric? Why does it need to be so loud? Turn on the closed captioning, I don't need to hear it because I am trying to sleep. So he turned it up three pips to 33. I gave up and watched on the agreement that the volume could be 22 instead. It's not a bad show, really.

Also, I think this is more a Gen Z thing than a millennial thing. I don't know anyone who uses any of those variants.

I watched it before you did.  Well, I watched some and skimmed the rest.  Pretty crummy overall.  I don’t get any joy out of watching young teenage girls twerk.
