I am interested in getting a new psychological evaluation as soon as possible.

However, I don't have an attorney for my VAWA case, and some doctors don't want to have evaluation session with clients who don't have attorneys.

Can anyone recommend someone who are accepting independent clients?

I personally didn't have big packages arrive to my PO box but I did ask people working there what happens if I receive one - they said they put in a slip in your box and keep the package in a separate room.

That's good to know. I'll change my address to the PO box I got. Thank you! :D

If the package is too big they will generally put a slip in your PO Box and keep your package for a few days in the backroom.

If it's ready to be scheduled for an interview then it's most likely at the field office. You can find your field office by ZIP code here: https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/find-a-uscis-office/field-offices

Best to write to both the service center and to the field office requesting to hold the I-485. Worst case scenario one of those requests will be thrown in the trash.

Which one is the service center? NBC or Vermont? I haven't filed yet. Gotta finish my declaration and get through to the psychologist.

Then I suggest to be ready for plan B and filling for restarting order as well; the number that you have to call and things like that. I suggest to let them know (the VAWA hotline) that you are planing to leave.

The more prepared you are, the less stress you go through and you will enjoy your freedom.

good suggestion. my counselor told me to be prepared for anything at this stage.

I don't know anyone, but someone recommended in this forum to let the doctors know if you can't afford an attorney and they might be willing to accept you as a new client. Other resources that can help are non profit organizations. The hotline.org can direct you to resources in your areas.

Thanks.

Just be clear I can afford a lawyer. I am just feeling they are no better than us.

I am just tired of paying thousands of dollars to someone who is doing minimum work, and they don't have to be responsible for the outcome, how absurd this is.

If we keep visiting this forum, we know everything about VAWA.

Look at the receipt number for the I-485. If it says MSC then it's NBC in Kansas City, MO. If it says EAC then it's VSC in St. Albans, VT. If it says something else for some unlikely reason then you gotta look up which service center it is and send it there.

It was not yet filed but they made a lot of mistakes on the simplest of forms and filled out the additional wrong forms and really messed up the support documents: they put in an outdated i-94, duplicates for bank statements, made general order mistakes like mixed up cover letters from different therapists etc..

Also never reviewed any of the statements so I'm shooting in the dark.

To represent the attorney to the Bar association you have to prove that the attorney was negligent ,caused damages and the damages were significant.

Hi everyone,

I have a question but I’m not sure what to do. My ex (the abuser) has filed contempt of court because he has not been able to see our daughter ( back story: his visits are supervised, and his sister assaulted me during the exchange) due to the fact that he will only have his sister supervise the visits.  One of the requests is that he wants my address, according to the family attorney I hired he states it’s my ex’s right to know where our child is.  I have applied for the address confidentiality from the state but haven’t heard anything back. The police response time is about 10-20 minutes ( the division is very small), I’ve alerted a policeman that has the route to check in on me, and if he hears me address to please come ASAP. But has anyone have to give their abuser their address in custody court? My attorney says I’m acting like a victim...

The court shall keep confidential your address, but then you need ask the Judge a different location where he will get your daughter, such as your relative's, your friend's house etc.

Friends, anyone willing to share their experience with me when they decided to leave their abusive spouse and any potential pitfalls that I should be aware of ? Would really appreciate it :)

The most dangerous time for a survivor is when he/she leaves the abuser.Do not tell that you are leaving, just pack your belongs when he/she is not home and leave the house. Exclude  him from your social media, block his email and phone calls.

If you have a child with the abuser you should ask asap for custody, ask the Court not to disclose your address.

Can you believe I asked my lawyer if he is accompanying me to my interview he’s gonna tell me that it’s an additional 2,000. So I emailed him back and said “here I was thinking it was a part of my pervious payment”. 🙄 Can you believe this man! I was gonna tell him it’s okay I’ll go with God. He has not done anything, everything I’ve done by myself, every information I got was by my queries. I’m the one that told him when everything substantial happened for Christ sakes. I’m trying so hard to be annoyed. Like he thinks I’m gonna give home another 2,000 just to come sit pretty. I’ll do that on my own.
