Hey guys!

Have any of you gone through the interview before getting your EAD?

I´m so frustrated with the whole EAD process. My bio appointment (Form 765 and 485) was on the 5th of January (filled on July 27 2020) , finally! But after that, only the form 485 got relevant updates, today it was updated to "Interview was scheduled", which is great, but the form 765 is still showing "Case Was Updated To Show Fingerprints Were Taken", since the 5th. Honestly, right now, all I want is my EAD, I need to work! haha

You will get your GC instead which is  much better :)

It´s all about timing and priorities, getting the GC is great, but my interview most likely won't be schedule months from now and if I don´t get the EAD until then, I can´t work. Right now, being able to work is more important than getting the GC 😔

Thank you for your reply!

I totally understand and I feel the same to be honest. Have you tried to expedite your EAD? If you have a job offer and can prove financial lose there may be a chance for you to get your EAD before.

If it says “interview was scheduled” instead of “ready to schedule for interview,” you won’t be waiting too long (although it definitely depends on what “too long” means to each person). I believe interviews dates tend to be 4-6 weeks from the status change on the website.

09/25/20: AOS package (I-130/I-485/I-765/I-944) mailed out via USPS.

09/27/20: Package received by USPS.

10/24/20: Received NOA1 in the mail. PD is 09/28/20.

01/05/21: Biometrics appointment completed (Brooklyn ASC). Case updated to show fingerprints were taken (I-486 & I-765).

01/05/21: I-131 mailed via UPS.

01/17/21: Received IOE receipt number for I-131 via text.

01/25/21: Received a biometrics reuse notice for I-131.

02/02/21: I-485 Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview.

02/04/21: Received I-693 deficiency notice in the mail (dated 01/29/21).

02/09/21: Advance Parole document was produced.

02/16/21: AP in hand.
02/26/21: New Card Is Being Produced (EAD).

03/04/21: EAD in hand.

09/01/21: EAD renewal paperwork received by USCIS. IOE receipt number.

09/07/21: Receipt / 180-day automatic extension received in the mail.

09/09/21: Received a biometrics reuse notice for I-765 renewal.

10/25/21: AP renewal NOA and biometrics reuse received in the mail.

11/04/21: Interview was scheduled for 12/02.

Yeah, it says “interview was scheduled”, but I thought that even after that update, the interview would take a long time to actually happen, considering their agenda is busy. Good to know that it could be faster than I was expecting. 🙂

Wow, congratulations. I filed around the same time as you and received the interview is ready to be scheduled on Jan 5th, but it hasn't changed to Interview was Scheduled yet :(

This waiting game is really disappointing! My fingerprints were taken on the 5th, form 485 updated to "interview is ready to be scheduled" on the 12th and today (the 21st) updated to “interview was scheduled”.  It can be so different from local office to local office. Good luck!

I received my interview date today but my field office scheduled for Feb 5th (very soon) and my husband has surgery that day so I requested a change and USCIS placed the request so I’ll wait for my new date!

Hello!

Can I ask how many weeks/months from the day your form 485 was updated to "interview was scheduled" until you got the mail notice with the actual date? Thank you

It took two weeks for me to get the date in the mail :(

USCIS approved my request to change my date (my husband is having surgery) so I’m now waiting for my local office to schedule that for me

Congratulation!!!!

I've just request to expedite my case this morning for financial loss. What was your reason and what proof did you give?

I basically have a job offer and I have no income at the moment.

Thanks a lot

Hi Elle53,

What other reason did you give besides you have no income? Based on what I read, that alone is insufficient so I'm wondering if you included other information.

I just got a job offer too but my EAD is still "case was received" (biometrics on Dec 22), super strange.

Thanks

Hi @kksy - I said that it will result in financial lose for me and my family but also for my employer as it will require the company to spend additional resources to hire and train someone else. I also faxed the invoice of my rent for January. I live in NYC like you and I think showing that the rent is very expensive helps.

Don't forget to add the copy of your completed biometrics.

Let me know if you have more questions
