I'm new here...

My wife and I filed her I-751 to remove conditional residency back at the end of December 2019 (it was due by early January 2020) and we haven't heard anything and it's now June 2020.

Her Green Card expires in two weeks -- 6/30/2020 and attempts to call USCIS get nowhere as I'm guessing due to the pandemic, the staff is reduced and so there is a huge backlog or we have just got lost in the shuffle and no way to find out anything.

What does anyone recommend?  We're concerned what happens after her Green Card expires (she does have an Extension Letter that was sent saying she's in process).  She doesn't work and pretty much stays home and doesn't drive too often so I'm hoping that we just have to wait it out.

But are they processing anything? Is there anyway to find out what if anything we should do?

Thank you for any and all responses!

Your GC is automatically extended for 18 months. If she has her extension letter then she will be fine. If her extension letter is due to expire then you would just need to schedule an appointment at Local office to get a stamp to extend that extension. You could check your processing times at the service center your application is at. I hope that helps. You can also your case status on USCIS website using your receipt number. You can also create an account if you don’t have one already. You are looking at a wait of 12-18 months for a new card. We all are!

I hope that helps.

also if you can fill out your VJ timeline as that would give us more info on where you are at. Thanks!

The extension states how long her green card (GC) expiration extends after the card expiration date. So for example if her GC expires 6/30/2020, and the letter states that her expiration is extended one year with the letter then the expiration is June 30/2021. If you get to end of May/early June 2021 and still have not received the new GC schedule an appointment to get an I-551 stamp in her passport. Otherwise, the letter will serve as the extension to her GC. I travelled with my extension letter and expired GC in 2015 and was able to come back from a cruise. Hope this helps

You have a 18 - 24 month wait for the new GC.  Read the other forums where people have been waiting a long time.  USCIS does not rush to process the I-751 because you already have a green card and extension letter.

You filed in December 2019? That's nothing. Expect this whole process to take 2 years, be happy with less. Not sure why you feel the need to call USCIS after just a few months?

There's a reason the extension letters used to be valid for 12 months, but are nowadays valid for 18 months. And the extension letter is just that, an extension of the proof of her status. So when her conditional greencard expires the letter kicks in for the next 18 months. Use the extension letter AND expired greencard together to prove her status if travelling abroad or starting a new job etc.

Hi,

You might want to check your dates. If your wife’s GC expires in June 2020 (meaning i suppose it’s not including the extension) your window to apply for I-751 opened 3 months prior, not in December 2019.

if you filed at the right time (before early January 2020), then the extension letter carries until June 2021 (18 months).

Did you receive the NOA after filing?

Yep, it doesn't add up. If her card expires at the end of this month, you couldn't have filed in December of last year.

Good catch, that does indeed make no sense.
