No social security number/card yet

Parent moved to US.  Entered March 2.  Still no social security card in hand.  All fees were paid during the NVC process.  Is there anything we missed?

This timeline is helpful. My wife just entered a few days ago. We're hoping to get her SSN soon, too.

I applied for SSN with EAD but my SSN doesn’t seem on the process, so I just decided to apply it again by mail.

In MyUSCIS, under I-551 it says that "USCIS has accepted your application, petition, or request for processing."

SS card arriving is hit and miss and not connected to anything in the USCIS side ... sometimes it comes and sometimes you need to visit the SSA office .. when they reopen ...  but... The $220 fee for the Green Card to be made must be paid after the successful interview and issuing of the visa. This is not part of the NVC process and fees. Has this been paid ?

Thanks, that's helpful... Do you think writing a letter to a local office would be helpful? The offices are closed, but there's still staff working inside.

Nope. They need to see her and her documents in person. If USCIS hadn’t sent whatever communication they need to by now .. SSA isn’t going to chase it from their end. 😣. Wait this out it is...

I just called the SS office (local office, not the SSA main number).  They said I can mail the ORIGINAL PASSPORT in with an application for a card, and they will then look into it.  If USCIS did it correctly, then they will issue a card.  If USCIS didn't do it, they will tell you to come back after this COVID-19 thing gets settled down.

 

Not sure if we want to go down this route
