Hello,

Does anyone have any information regarding the process required for a Canadian Dental Hygienist wanting to relocate to California?

I’ve been working as a dental hygienist for 14 years and graduated with a Bachelor of Science - Specialization in Dental Hygiene from a University.

Any tips or suggestions, please!

Your issue would be a visa, not TN I think, would an employer sponsor you? EB3 maybe?

I think the issue in this whole process would be getting a visa. I could go ahead and get the license but there’s no point unless I am able to obtain a visa to work.

EB3 would probably be the best option, but again, I would have to find an employer to sponsor me, would I?

Yes you would, not cheap and not quick so you would need to be in high demand realistically.

TN is the common one for Canadians but do not think your occupation qualifies.

Dental hygienist doesn't qualify for TN, so the only way is to find an employer to sponsor you.  Is H1B a viable option? I was under the impression most medical/dental fields are in demand but not sure about specifics for hygienists. Of course right now is not a good time to look for work with dentists taking emergency appointments only (at least in california where you are aiming at), suggest waiting till after the shelter in place is lifted.

Yes, of course I would have to wait until this pandemic is over to figure out the demand. It is an uncertain time for everyone!

I will look into H1B as an option. I don’t know much about the visa qualifications.

Hygiene does fall into a grey area.

Thank you all for your input - I really appreciate the help!

I doubt a H1b would apply usually, is a Degree required to be a Dental Hygenist?

No idea, just went by OP’s first post where she states she has a degree in it....and why I asked if it was viable.

I do have a BSc specialization in dental hygiene.

Degrees are not always required to be a dental hygienist depending on your schooling, but I went to a university to get a degree   rather than college to get a diploma

So a H1b is not appropriate.
