No interviews and Australia is locking down

I know the question about visits has been addressed but, these are new circumstances.  My fiance' is in Australia where travel is locking down in 2 weeks.  There will be no interviews for the foreseeable future and we are at the NVC portion with a case number but nothing has shipped.  Is it possible for her to visit with a return flight until this blows over?  Thoughts...much appreciated.

I can't offer you an answer but I just want to tell you that I am in the same situation. I am the Aussie and our case should have left the NVC today but who knows now. Sad times.

You might have trouble getting through immigration at this time, given they might think you’ll adjust your status while you’re over there. When I went over there last year while i was waiting for my NOA2 I was questioned heaps.

Also, With a travel ban in place, be careful because Australian consular assistance will be limited. Also travel insurance likely isn’t going to cover her if she gets sick in the US due to the current covid 19 situation. My K1 interview just got cancelled today and I understand it’s a super depressing right now.

my husband has his green card approved and we are going in June to the US, flights booked, but now will likely not be able to get there.  Does anyone know if USCIS is extending deadlines in which green card holders must enter the US?  We have to be there by July 12, but the way things are going we may not be able to leave Australia!

At this stage Qantas is still keeping services between US and Australia flying. My thoughts are that  Australia will be better placed in the mid to long term than the US due to a more robust  universal healthcare system ... so you should be able to  fly out .. as a USC and spouse of USC you should get entry ok into the US .. self quarantine would follow I am sure ...

I think she’d be coming out of the frying pan into the fire.. I wouldn’t be giving away AUST Medicare for travel insurance and the US health system. .. travel insurance  wouldn’t cover the COVID  pandemic as it’s a defined event now and excluded

thanks, I do agree.  Our flight is with Virgin Australia mid June.  I see virgin just cancelled all flights through June 14- we are only supposed to leave a few days after that.  I guess, worse case we will have to buy a qantas ticket if virgin extends their halt- which i'm afraid might cost an arm and a leg last minute.  fingers crossed this passes quickly

I think health aside, they may be able to fly over, but i'm not sure what the airlines will do and whether US borders are still open to "visitors" (I think they are??)

June looks so far from today. By June no one know how many airlines will survive and what the situation will be ? so much of unpredictability

duh

US has not closed its borders at this stage to people who have been in Australia in the previous 14 days.

Hi Cillah, there are a few people I chat with whose case number was received early march and still in NVC. We receive our case number on 16th and hoping it would make it out on 17th too... :(

Well, she is a healthy 32 year old with an ESTA that is good through November.  It's really a matter of it customs will allow her through for the 90 days that are eligible....
