When we submitted all our documents and the 2 passport pics to the NVC it was back in November 2018. We just got our interview date for this month. Are we still able to use those 2 passport pics as the ones we bring to our interview or are they too old now (over a year old).  Wondering if we need to get new ones taken?

I know criminal checks expire but I haven't read anything about the photos expiring so I wasn't sure.

Thanks!

We have our interview this month in Montreal on the 23rd. I'm starting to get worried all this madness from the Coronavirus may cause issues when the time comes for us to move to the US.

I wondered of anyone else is concerned.

Our visas are only good for 6 months. I just hope there won't be any issues moving and entering the US when we are ready to. On top of that selling our house during all this. I know it's not bad here in Canada yet but who knows what a few weeks/months can do.

I have seen nothing to suggest there would be any problem entering US from Canada......I don't think we are even near the point of stopping all entry.

Be aware that visas are normally valid for 6 months from the date of the medical exam.....but are sometimes shorter.

You can enter the US and activate your green card anytime before it expires.   Then you can return to Canada and do your move.

I think I saw 112 Canadians refused entry into US at land border yesterday.  But they we're probably coming to the US as tourist, you would be coming as a LPR which is different.

Btw I noticed you're selling your house, you should try and sell it before you leave Canada, because once you're in the US canada will tax your house a "departure tax" but I guess you may know this? I am pretty sure that departure tax for houses are super super high. Might be worth selling and delaying visa long as possible. Just a thought?

Yes we'll be selling before we enter the US. I know someone I work with that is going to Florida this week. they were let in. I'm just worried as it will probably be 2-3 months from now that we'll move. Who knows the state of things by then.

But no I didn't know that. They tell you not to sell your house until you are approved.

I'll be selling my house before we move. I really don't want to have to come back (there are 4 of us moving. me husband and 2 young children)

I'm more concerned if it gets bad enough they won't let us into the US at the border and the visa is only good 6 months. What if we can't enter before it expires. I know I'm probably worrying too much lol.

I know I'm probably worrying too much lol. We probably won't be able to move for another 2-3 months and I just worry by then it could be really bad and borders shut. Even though at the moment Canada has way less cases of the virus than the US.

Yep. Currently in the US visiting my spouse and concerned that travel restrictions will be put into place and I won't be able to get home. Also, we're expecting to be scheduled for an interview in May. Considering how fast all of this moves, Montreal could be shut down by then (though as far as I am aware, the only consulates that have closed so far have been in China) and the process for us is already looking to be 20 months, never mind however long it would take for all of that to clear up. To say that I will breathe a huge sigh of relief immediately after POE would be an understatement!

Good luck with your interview and future move :)

I really hope you have no travel issues and that the consulate stays open. I'd hate to see anyone have to delay their long awaited interview because of the virus. Thank you so much! Wish you lots of luck too! 🙂

Just the person with the VISA needs to enter the US and can turn right around and leave.  That will use the visa and get you an I-551 stamp good for a year,
