Hello

So NVC sent me wife today (IR spousal visa app from Manila) an email and in their message box was the statement that I did not make enough money. I am confused about this. I made about 49000 last year. It said that the consular officer will make a determination at the interview.

My wife is panicking. They mentioned might want a joint sponsor.

So, what is the next step here? NVC will still forward my case to Manila embassy?

I have my pay stubs that show my income. Show the pay stubs at the interview?

My mother has social security and a job...should I ask her to be a co sponsor?

Thanks

Why don't you look at the CEAC site yourself and see what's wrong.  Make sure the I-864 is properly filled out.  Make sure you send them the evidence they require like pay stubs showing current income (past income doesn't matter unless you're self employed or from a strict embassy about financials) and your tax return transcripts.

If your income is from a w2 and you didn't want to use assets, then the I-864ez would have been the way to go.

Hello,

I had the same issue and my income is more than the required amount. But what may make an impact is how your tax return was filed. Especially if you income was earned overseas, you may have qualified for Foreign Income Exclusion and then that brings down the gross pay. I added my father as co-sponsor to not delay the process like NVC said although I know I won't be needing his income , it is just a safe bet to have it on file.

To have a co-sponsor is pretty easy. You need to fill I-864a, proof or relationship, proof of domicile, and their latest year tax return. Don't forget to add their name in the NVC household member section as well!

Best of luck,
Tam

Impossible to advise you based on the information you provided.  However, the wording of their email is standard in cases where people really do qualify.  The Consular Officer, not NVC, makes the final decision.  Current income is the key.  That does not come from a tax return unless you are self employed.  If you are self employed, proper completion of the I-864 gets more complicated.

CURRENT income is king.  For example, an unemployed person's current income is $0 even if he/she made a fortune last year.  Consulate officers look at the entire situation.....but current income is what demonstrates ability to financially support a new immigrant.  Like @NikLR said, send them what they need to show sufficient current income or assets.  Good luck.

Ok so it seems the NVC may need an updated Aff of Support from me for tax year 2019. They got my documents on Jan 21.

So, I am uploading the updated AOS today. It reflects income AGI of about 46k.

The message to me said I do not make enough money.

Will uploading a new AOS aff of support delay our interview date being set up?

They should schedule the interview in Manila for spousal IR1 in the next couple of weeks?

We are hoping for an interview in maybe April. Sound right?
