Something I am also realizing, I want to learn recipes and the like, my children and grandchildren have to know what it was like back in the "old country" per say, lol.

I recommend getting the Delia Smith How to Cook series, which is now collected in a single volume. My ex MIL gave me the set when I was over there on a trial run before my ex and I got engaged to see if I liked living there (I, um, didn't?). Anyway she said I needed to learn how to cook properly and Delia taught me that! A lot of the recipes are easy to convert to US ingredients, but sometimes you do need to hunt down particular ingredients. Amazon is surprisingly good these days, and British Corner Shop is a treasure. I get proper bacon from a slightly posh supermarket here, we've been having waaaaaay too many bacon butties recently!

I have the Ostrich lady coming by tomorrow, any Delia recommendation for Ostrich?

Let me see... if she doesn't, it's possible Elizabeth David does.

Okay, apparently she DID have one but I cannot find it. https://www.theguardian.com/theguardian/2000/mar/31/features11.g21

Great quote from that article from Nigella:

Quote

Food critic Nigella Lawson has a simpler explanation: "Exotic meats have failed because they are disgusting," she says, although she does admit to having a recipe for squirrel casserole. "Ostrich has a vile texture and is horribly sweet and pappy, alligator is like a cross between tuna and pork. Emu is alright, and I once made some lovely kangaroo burgers, but you wouldn't want to eat them regularly. It's only natural that we should prefer meats from our own hemisphere."

Meijer do a great range of UK products and a ton of Heinz baked beans for a Sunday fry up is always a must for us. My wife doesn't like them as she thinks they look cheap and nasty. Here the ones in brown sugar and has a darker looking colour to it is considered better. I'm alone in our house in preferring beans in tomato sauce

Baked beans from the US is one of the things I have totally missed being over here. I can't wait to have access to them again. That and Kraft Minute Rice. :) Sadly, there isn't much over here (foodwise) that I found I've liked better than the US beyond maybe the cheese and lamb. Sadly, I do not care for much else. I do wish there were more options for hubby's favorite foods from here back in the states, but we have found some substitutes when we lived there previously. HEB has a cheese that I love that is very close to UK cheddar. It's called Croc.

We buy HEB Artisan Cheddar. They sell small chunks but the deli can do slices off big blocks. Label looks like this https://www.heb.com/product-detail/h-e-b-deli-artisan-aged-white-cheddar-cheese/1109287

I'm very familiar with HEB (can't wait to be able to shop there again). Do like their Artisan cheddar, but Croc is also really good. It's Australian and not too costly. :)

I’m going to try Croc.

Today at the supermarket:

I checked the label and confirmed they were all made in the UK. :) However we didn't buy any because I too am not a fan of the tomatoey beans, and although he loves them he is not allowed them due to a nightshade sensitivity.

Picked up some Garibaldi biscuits, along with some McVities caramel digestives. No back bacon this week, second week in a row. :(

On the subject of beans and breakfast foods, I seriously miss a good British sausage!  Seems to be impossible to find locally, and sausage patties just don't cut it for me.

Closest I have had to a proper sausage since I've been here was breakfast at the 7 mile cafe in Florida Keys - I had everyone in there cracking up I got so excited 😂😂

Everything crossed for a smooth and stress free journey

Costco has decnet sausages, Denver has a specialist Butcher that does an English Banger type.
