Tbh I don't know if you actually need to send it or not. The lady at USPS specifically asked for my name change document, I decided to send a regular photocopy and that worked out just fine. So either the document wasn't even needed so it didn't matter that it wasn't an original or certified copy, or the copy was good enough for what they needed it for.

Yeah i think i needed this, i'm pretty sure i read this in the instructions. Plus they kinda checked everything at the post office and i think they would have told me if it wasn't needed. (For example one girl wanted my a copy of my id as well and the other one told her they don't need that). I think it should be fine in your husband's case anyway, i'm sure they have ways to check and find out if needed.

Ohhhh I didn't know. My husband did not include this in his application. I hope it doesn't end up rejected for that. He applied at the post office and was not asked about it. I guess we will see what happens!

They won’t just reject for a missing document, they will send the passport agency version of an RFE. Had that with my younger  kid.

Emailed me a copy and the snail mail version followed a few days later.

The guy at USPS didn’t ask for my name change document. I asked about it, and he said it’s only needed if the name change happened AFTER the naturalization. In my case, I changed my name before getting my certificate of naturalization, so it has my new name on it, which means the state department already has my new name on file. If the name change happened After naturalization, the state department might not be aware yet, and that’s when you must send the name change document. Sounds logical to me. Let’s hope he is right!

I and my wife applied our 1st time passport; my kids renew their minor passports. 

All arrived at the same time.

it was shipped with priority mail. 

return address on the label is from Los Angeles, CA. 

tracking info on Web shows it was from Tucson, AZ. 

So locator 50 means either Los Angeles, CA or Tucson, AZ. 

 

 

yours was super fast.  i applied with routine service as well,  renewal and first time.   Mailed at USPS on 7/1/2021, one in process on 7/19, the other 7/29.

I brought both original and copy of my name change doc. The person who was taking and verifying my application said that they (passport department) won’t need it. And he was thorough... He rejected my dL as id since it still has my old name and used naturalization certificate as Id.

I filled for the passport application for myself and family with USPS on 8/9, expedited service. The status is still not updated for my application, is it typical with the expedited service to take that long for the status to go in process? all the money order cashed in on 8/12 though

Another person in this thread had the same issue, turned out they had misspelled his name when they entered his information in the system, that's why he couldn't see his application status (because obviously he tried to see his status using the right spelling).

Looks like he had to apply for a new passport (or a replacement passport) as the first passport had his name misspelled just like in the system.

I`m going to email at npic@state.gov to find out about my application. Is there a way to contact them via phone? Tried calling the 877 number and seems like there is no way to connect to a customer support for status checks.

Back in April when I had applied I called them, I think you just need to call right when they open, it seems like they're getting a ridiculous amount of calls so they stop taking new ones at a certain point.
