Hi, guys,

I received  Passport on Nov., 12. The Passport card arrived next day, on Nov.13. But I have not gotten my CoN back, yet.

The email I got with a tracking # for the passport states I should give it up to 10 days to receive a proof of my citizenship back.  Ok.

But my friend and I applied at the same day -we actually went together to the same agency. We received our passports and cards on the same days. She got her Birth Certificate (she is a USC by birth) last Friday. I was hoping my Certificate would arrive today. But nope.

Just curios how long it usually take/recently took ???  I understand each case is different, but....  I'm worried a little bit :)

Also, can I update my status with SSA with  my US passport or passport card? Or they will accept only CoN?

Thank you!

Every case is different so you can't compare yourself to your friend.

The CoN is mailed separately from the passport.

Call the number on the passport application to find out if they have mailed it back or not.

My SIL's CoN was mailed to an address that didn't exist (they got one of the number wrong) and was returned to them.  They had it when we called.  They mailed it back to the correct address.

Thanks for reply. Yes, I'll definitely call them..

Also, what about SSA? Can I update my status with the passport /passport card? Or they need CoN?

Adil's new US passport,   the other passport card and his naturaliztion paper came back in 3 different mailings about 2 weeks apart for each

your friend was a USC a lot easier to do the new passport and return the birth certificate

that's what I've thought too.. Just all those stories about CoN lost make me nervous  - need to stop reading, lol .

Guess, i'll give them few more days (to make it up to 10 business days)  and if still nothing, then will place  an inquiry..

Thanks for the answer - really appreciate this!

What is interesting is how different the passport agencies treat newly naturalized citizens.  In Detroit, if you applied for a passport within 30 days of your naturalization ceremony, they made a copy and hand back the original CoN.

To the OP, just like all the other phases of immigration, you can check to see if your CoN is on the way, but otherwise, you just have to wait.

Good Luck and Congrats on becoming a USC!

Such a pleasure to see such a fine VJ member get a passport.

----------------

Thread is moved from General Immigration Discussion to the "Passports, etc." subforum of the US Citizenship forum.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

If you have USPS Informed Delivery, the NC shows up as 'mail with no image.' Some members reported getting theirs as long as 2 weeks after passport book/card... the final stress of the immigration journey.

I do have an account with USPS. And so far - nothing, no "mail with no image"... But thank you for the info - good to know what I should see in Informed Delivery Daily Digest.

That's what I think too - to give them time to the end of this week.. It will be exactly 2 weeks/10 business days since I received passport and card.

I've thought the stress and wait is over once you get your citizenship... Nope !There is always something to be worried about and wait for :)

I wish..... They wanted the original. Actually, they took both - original and copy.
