Partial quote below

(The Hunter) put his rifle down near the deer stand and walked down to check and make sure it was dead," Stephens said. "And that's when whatever happened, happened."

The deer, which was not fatally injured, got back up and attacked Anderson, who suffered several puncture wounds on his body.

"Our assumption is the deer did gore him with his antlers," Stephens said.

I dont hunt, but do support hunting. I just am too soft hearted to enjoy killing animals, although I recognize it as necessary.

I use to be a supervisor at a Kaolin mine. I use to get a kick out of the men with toxic masculinity, who bragged they could feed their family off the land.  I told one , one day.

I tell you what,  give up your 40K 4 wheel drive truck,  your 600 dollar rifle, your 400 bucks of clothing, Tree stands, binoculars, scent makers, doe piss, etc. Fashion a rock into a spear head,  make yourself some deer skin pants, and go track a buck for 2 days and kill him with a spear... Then I will grant you , the I can feed my family off the land. You have many 1000's invested in hunting gear, you could put two freezers full of beef in your house for that.

This magnificent deer ran out in front of my husband's car earlier this year. The oncoming (speeding) ran it over. One of the sickest things I've seen in my life. They fled the scene and ran it over even more to get away fast. My husband wanted to console the dying thing but I told him it would be too dangerous knowing how strongly they kick. We called the cops, but honestly? I have never wanted to own a gun but in that moment I wish I had one to stop it suffering so much. It was a terrible way to die. I don't get hunting personally. I know culling is a good thing in some respects for the environment, but other than that... none of the people that do it out here are doing it to feed their families... they just want a head to mount to feel proud or something. Well.. there's plenty of struck deer along the road that they then end up chopping the heads off of and leaving the carcass to rot. We get poachers, people firing bullets into houses, not hunting within the legal time, and some are such a dreadful shot...

I always wonder about that too. There are three hundred million people in the US and 30 million deer. Feeding your family off then land relies mostly on the fact that no one else is doing that.

As I said I dont hunt, but it is necessary.  Much more human for a buck to die by bullet than by starvation, disease, etc.

I agree taking animals for trophies is not something I admire. Guess I am just an old softie.

That's what I said - 30 million deer. That would not feed 300 million people for too long if we all had to live off the land.

Who is to say the deer population is too high though? Maybe the human population is too high. There is not enough room for both.

I was pointing out the population boom, not tryna say you were wrong.  And it had some interesting numbers on how much was spent annually to hunt them.  DEFINITELY not a good ROI for meat.

I can't wait until.we can start harvesting those wild horses out West.  I'm sure someone will take advantage of us and charge a premium price for horse burgers though.  😢😢
