Reenter USA on conditional GC but divorced

Hello, I hope you all are having a great day!

 

i have just one short question - I got divorced while having conditional green card but still didn’t file i751. If I travel out of country will I be allowed to reenter US? Is my status of permanent resident still valid or it was terminated automatically once I got divorced?

Can I be not admitted on a border if they know I am divorced?

You remain an LPR through divorce just fine. Just be sure to file for ROC before your card expires. Since you are divorced, you can file anytime (no 90 day window required). And be sure your green card doesn’t expire while abroad as that would be an expensive hassle to get back to the US.

I was watching a « Border Security » episode yesterday, one of the segments was about a woman coming back from Ukraine with her conditional GC after divorcing her American husband, the CBP officer told her that her card was linked to her marriage and she had to surrender it at the border but she was allowed in as a tourist tho… well it’s worth what it’s worth it’s a show but it may be helpful.

That’s crazy... did he take her green card away? What about job? I am still allowed to work but if I get admitted back as tourist... it has to mean I am not allowed..

Misinformed CBP officer imo.....or her conditional card was expired.......She maintains her LPR status after the divorce UNLESS, it had expired....  If she failed to apply for removal of conditions, then her status expired with the card.

Have any info on the episode? I’m fairly confident there is more to the situation than just being divorced....or that officer is in serious trouble.

Plenty of reasons but that one makes the most sense

The only reason why I asked is that my ex husband also told me  he had seen this episode and I shouldn’t leave...

I remember that episode. Although the lady was living back in Ukraine again just using her GC as a visitors visa, trying to keep it alive, in case she decided she wanted to move back at some point. It’s season 1 ep 21 of Border Security, available on Netflix.

Thanks! Yeah, that makes much, much more sense. She had already abandoned residency and was using the card as a tourist visa. The issue wasn’t that she was divorced.
