Travel without Passport, But with Green Card

sadly I am still waiting on my status of GC , I have my 2 year GC with a extention letter till I get my 10 year GC but I was wondering if I can travel anywhere in the states without my passport? sadly someone stole my passport n I have to get a new one which Is sadly taken to long and my hubby wants to take me to Hawaii for my BDAY in 3 weeks, but was wondering if I can go to Hawaii with just my GC with the extension letter or do I need my passport?

You don't need a passport to travel the United States.   You need your green card, plus extension letter, as proof of status.

You need to check Real ID changes. If u had your passport, it would not be a problem. In order the fly within the US, you need a qualifying Real ID.

just to make sure I understood the site, I think real id is like a American drivers license, if that is so I can use my green card with my drivers license

Check to make sure your drivers license is real id qualifying - they are phasing them in so if like mine it was before the cutoff then it might not be and some states the real id version was more expensive so people opted out and some states aren’t doing the drivers license version of real id. Check your states dmv website they should have info on how to check your drivers license qualifies to be used as real id

on Texas it says 

Texas has joined the National REAL ID Act, and when it goes into effect in 2020, you'll need an updated driver's license that will have a white star in a gold circle on the right corner of the license. That emblem will allow you to travel and enter government buildings like the federal courthouse in Waco.

 

so I think I might be ok since I am goin in 2019 but ill still more research on it

Our gold stars appeared when we changed address in 2018 so Texas has been RealID compliant for awhile

well this is upsetting if that is true, I sent my passport stuff 2 months ago n still heard nothing back, I might have to call dmv to make sure

oh I just saw my drivers license and it has the yellow star so I think I am safe

thank goodness, thank you on the info, it would have sucked to get hotels n stuff and end up being stuck at the border
