I'm trying to find a solid/recent answer here, but haven't been successful yet. When my husband lives in Calgary. But it is it still true that he can only interview in either Vancouver or Montreal?

Thanks!

Since he lives in Calgary, he will be interviewed in Vancouver. You don't get a choice since it's based on where you live, but those are the only two places that do interviews for this visa.

I haven't heard of Vancouver doing CR-1 interviews---as far as I know Vancouver handles non-immigrant visas only.

The CR-1 interview will be in Montreal.  He'll be able to do the interview in English or French, so don't worry.

Looks like @Ash. is applying outdated K-1 info to the current IR-1/CR-1 info: https://ca.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee/

Quote

Effective April 1, 2016, U.S. Consulate General Vancouver is no longer processing new fiancé(e) (K) visa applications. U.S. Consulate General Montreal will be the interview location for all fiancé(e) visas in Canada. This change applies to all fiancé(e) visa petitions received at the National Visa Center after March 31, 2016. U.S. Consulate General Vancouver will continue to process fiancé(e) visa applications and conduct interviews for petitions they received prior to that date.

All K-1, IR-1/CR-1, etc. cases now go through Montreal.

Montreal only for ALL immigrant visa interviews.  Vancouver has never done IR1/CR1 and now no longer does K1.  You don't need to speak french if you stay downtown in Montreal.  It is cool to walk around and while Montreal is a place I never had the desire to visit, it was certainly interesting and I enjoyed my time there.

As someone who was from Alberta, he has 2-3 choices when the medical & interview happens.  Since the interview is scheduled by the NVC and the only way to reschedule is to miss your interview then try for the pooshoot that he can get another date within a few months, I suggest highly attending the interview as scheduled.  He can either do the medical in Surrey BC, and then fly to Montreal for the interview after the results are back to him.  He can fly to Ontario or Montreal and then return to Montreal after the results are in, or he can spend about a week in Montreal waiting for the results and attending interview.  Majority of us from the western bit tend to pick the 3rd option unless you have friends/family etc in Surrey or one of the other locations. Surrey and Montreal get you the results the quickest.

Thank you for all of this info!

So he can't even get his physical in Calgary? This visa is getting more and more expensive by the minute!

He was a flight attendant for 10 years, he hates traveling so much, he's going to hate all of this! But he has a good friend in Montreal, so I'll let him know about this.

Nope there are 4 locations.  1 in surrey BC, two in the Toronto(ish) area, and Montreal.

Okay, I think I get what everyone is saying now. When he gets his interview date in Montreal, the goal would be to try to get a physical appointment for about a week before the interview so that he can do both on one plane trip. That makes sense. Looks like we'll be spending a week in Montreal in the future.

Frustrating that those are the only options. But once we get there, that will be endgame so we'll probably have lots of motivation and excitement for it.
