Is a K1 bride eligible for medicare if she is over 65 and her spouse is already on medicare?

You can call Social Security and ask about her receiving spousal  benefits based on your Social Security. They can also sort out any Medicare eligibility questions. 800-772-1213

My wife got interested in this topic and how it applies to us so called the SSA at that number I posted. It wasn't great because the menu didn't exactly address what she wanted so she kept choosing "other". And then---"Your wait time will be approximately 50 minutes." Uh-oh. So she laid the phone down within earshot and continued on updating a website we admin. About 50 minutes later she got a live person.

i arrived late in the US myself and may or may not get in 40 quarters of Social Security work prior to turning 65. If I do, then I get the cheapest version of Medicare...free Part A and around $135/month for Part B. But if I don't get in the 40 quarters, I am still eligible (same cost) based on the fact that she is already drawing Social Security retirement and we are married.

There are penalties if you don't enroll when you first become eligible, even if you had to buy in at a higher cost. For most it is the 65th birthday. For your wife it appears that her first eligibility will be after five years of continuous residence in the US since she is already 65. And she must be a greencard holder or US citizen. A question for you to ask SSA is when do they consider her residence begins? Does it begin when she gets her greencard? If so, it's a shame you didn't do the spouse visa where she would be a greencard holder from Day 1. If SSA defines residence begins when she becomes a permanent resident, that could add a year just waiting on that.

Main forum page,  just scroll down and you will see all of them

I have scrolled the complete page several times and find NO categories specific to a K1 visa.  Rules are different for each visa and so it makes more sense to me to stay on topic.  This question is NOT about health care, it is about eligibility for health care which is something that could easily vary by visa type.

Yes, but the core issue is health care AFTER entering the USA not how to get a k1 visa.

Its already been moved by the moderators so its already a moot issue

YMMV

Back to the topic, have you been to the Obamacare site for your State to get an idea of the options and cost for Insurance?

Thanks for the rescue!!!!!   I mentioned ACA to my Medicare salesman who promptly told me it was only for people under 65.  So, I asked him to find out for sure about this and he said he would.  I'll post his answer if anybody else cares.  Thanks again.

ACA is not aged limited, obviously many people move to Medicare but some can not.

Your salesman seems to have bad info. A 65 and older immigrant that does not yet meet the 5 year criteria would only have two other options as I said before, if they do not have job-offered insurance. Buy insurance privately or use O'care. I have seen a few other posters do this for their elderly parents and there is nothing that I know of that prevents an elderly immigrant from using either option, because there is no other option that will cover pre-existing condition coverage. Age is not a phase out in this regard. Temporary and short term insurances and even visiting insurances for immigrant are non-compliant and will not assist.

I would anticipate you would find it very difficult to obtain non ACA insurance.

I will pass this on to my insurance guy and see what he says.  I guess I didn't question his information because Americans over 65 get free part A Medicare.
