ICE in my neighborhood

I’m a citizen. My baby was born here in the USA in January this year. My wife came here on a cr-1 visa in December 2018. 

 

A neighbor told my mom today that ICE was in my neighborhood and was asking another neighbor  if a baby lives in my home. Supposedly the other neighbor responded that he does not know. (He has seen my baby multiple times) 

 

could this just be neighborhood gossip about my family? Should I contact someone to get more information? Thank you.

Sounds like gossip.

Even in the remote possibility that it was true, what would be the problem? You're a USC. Your wife is a legal immigrant. Your child is a USC.

You’re right. Emotions got the best of me. I got mad just thinking about how much my wife and I went through to get here and have our son born here just to have neighbors gossip. That’s life. Thanks you once again.

Yea, even if ICE was there asking, you have nothing to worry about since everything there is legal as in you're a USC, she's a GC holder, and the baby is a USC also by birth so. Even if they were trolling the nieghborhood, nothing to worry about, but sounds like nonsense.

Agree with others that you have nothing to worry about. It could be gossip, but it could be ICE. I see them driving around all the time. Even our local police department has vehicles with ICE on them.

ICE and CBP vehicles are thick, in the Valley.  It seems that one ICE, CBP, Sheriff, constable, or local police vehicle is stationed every 100 feet on U.S. 83 from McAllen west to Rio Grande City.

But have you seen the local police with ICE branded vehicles? I guess ICE embeds officers in the local police? Saw one "Harlingen PD ICE Patrol"

Interesting -- I haven't seen those with Harlingen PD (or others).  This certainly sounds like collaboration, and more than a mere ride-along arrangement.

 

There used to be, and might still be, a program called 287g, wherein non-Federal police units could perform some immigration-enforcement functions.

 

Because you're right there, maybe call a PD to ask, ask a police officer if you happen to cross trails with one, or ask at the CBP port next time you go to Mexico and back.  This would be interesting information to learn.
