No extension letter for step son 31 days after filing I-751 - USCIS customer service not very helpful - Advice needed

Before I get into my issue and what happened I will post instructions on how to actually get a USCIS rep on the phone which required a Google search for me to figure out.

- Call the phone number on your extension letter (800-375-5283)

- When navigating the menu select 1 twice then 2 twice then # when asked to enter your receipt number (if you enter your number it will just send you to an automated system that gives you the status of your application).

- Be ready to wait on hold at least 45 minutes then be ready to give your receipt number to the rep right away along with other identifying information.  - They will not allow you to reschedule a biometrics appointment over the phone unless it is your appointment or the person who has the appointment is there for them to speak to.

Hopefully this information helps someone and saves you time having to call back multiple times. Anyways here is the issue I am dealing with. I filed an I 751 with both my wife and step son on the application. USCIS received it 31 days ago. My wife received her extension letter a week after filing and her biometrics appointment a week later. She had her biometrics appointment last week. My step son has received nothing whatsoever in the mail. I called USCIS a couple weeks ago and was told to call back after 30 days had passed since they received the package if no letters were received by us. The rep gave me my step sons receipt number over the phone and told me no biometrics appointments had been scheduled for him yet.

As I said before today is day 31 with no letter received so I just called USCIS. After waiting about an hour a rep answered and I explained the situation to her and she put me on hold for a minute. She then came back and told me normally they would forward my call to an immigration officer in this situation but none were currently available. She told me she didn't know when one would be available and to try calling back tomorrow morning.

Anyone ever deal with this situation and have any ideas for me? I'll try calling USCIS again tomorrow but if I keep getting the run around I think my next call will be to my congressman's office. That worked for us when we were in the I 130 process and NVC was taking longer than usual and couldn't locate our paperwork. A couple calls to my congressman's office and a week later they mysteriously found the paperwork and immediately processed everything. I hope it doesn't come to that again but I'm a busy person and don't have time to wait on hold numerous times over one simple issue. I want to be clear though that both reps I spoke with were friendly and were as helpful as they could be given the situation. My issue is more with how the system is set up rather than with the individual reps.

This happen every time when calling the 800 number. It is not unusual.

There's only one problem with that. The closest field office (which is where my wife had her biometrics appointment) is over 2 hours away from us (Milwaukee). When we were there I saw signs saying they no longer provide infopass services at that location. If I had to guess the closest field office that does infopass is probably somewhere near Chicago (almost a 4 hour drive). I'm gonna try calling again tomorrow. I thought someone told me USCIS reps could have an extension letter sent out after 30 days from their computer but I could be mistaken. The only thing I'm concerned about is if the biometrics letter was lost in the mail and we miss the appointment. It also bothers me that we have to make the same drive twice for 2 biometrics appointments on different days but it is what it is I guess. If I get no where on the phone tomorrow I will have to look into infopass more or failing that give my congressman's office a call. They seem to know how to get things done when it comes to immigration stuff. Anyone have any other ideas?

I'm in the same situation. My wife received her extension letter (NOA) rather quickly once we submitted the I-751 package. My two step-sons never received anything tho. My first call to USCIS was on 3/11 and the rep said that dependents don't even have a receipt number. At which point I knew I had gotten somebody who didn't really know. I pressured and eventually he looked up their A numbers and magically a receipt number showed up on his comp.

My second call on 3/13, armed with the receipt number now, the rep automatically offered to file a service request (SR) for non-receipt of the NOA for my step-sons.

I checked the case status online and it states they responded to the SR and closed the inquiry. So I'm waiting to see what they send.

I'd say just call back and be nice but confident with your request. Ask to file a service request for non-receipt of the NOA (extension) letter.
