I cant believe this is even news. we were taught this in the Boy Scouts more than uh well.... a long long time ago

  I think I read this in the SAS survival handbook. It's been a while though. I have to reread it now.

I know it use to ve in the boyscout handbook and you had to do it for one of the merit badges

I learned this in day one of swim week during boot camp in the Marines.
