Has anyone here joined the military on a conditional GC lately and would like to tell me about the process?

There has been a long history of non-citizens proudly serving the U.S. But a recent Department of Defense policy change has delayed the process for all GC holders: http://www.usarec.army.mil/hq/stories/20171024_194.html

Quote

Previously, recruits were allowed to head to initial military training as long as their background investigation had been initiated and they had cleared all other entry screening requirements.

The change will mean that green card holders entering the military may be in the delayed entry or training program longer than in the past, due to a backlog for security clearances at the Office of Personnel Management.

The delay is taking longer than a year in most cases. Just be aware of the delay.

Did you join? I would like to hear personal experiences.

What service are you wanting to join? Be aware that a couple will not let you join under the 2 year conditional green card.

I read that only Air Force requires an unconditional GC. The other branches don't. What other branches can't you join with a conditional gc?? And when did that change?

But I am not joining the Air Force! Can you please respect that I want opinions from people with personal experience only. Stop wasting my time, please.

You asked "What other branches" and @Roel's post states it also applies to the Navy.

Also, read VJ's TOS.

Please respect that it's against the TOS of this site to tell people not to post in your thread.

I am happy for anyone to post in this thread. But should it not be about my topic?

Why does it matter what service? My thread is simply about the process to join the military. Not what branch you can or can not join. You can join the Navy, Army, and Marines on a conditional GC. You need an unconditional GC for the Airforce. At least this is what I have been told.

And the reason that I wanted to hear personal experiences was because the process changes a lot all the time. I know that there are previous posts in here but I wanted to hear about more recent experiences.

Thank you. I already know what branches you can join and which ones that you can not join :)
