I don't see any period of validity on the single status certificate that my fiance received from the Registro Civil, and I don't see anything in the P3 about it either.  If you already have one from June, I wouldn't postpone the interview over that, because if they do require a more recent one, that is something that you can still provide after the interview.  If you are approved, they will give you a conditional approval and once you provide what they ask for, you will receive your visa.  The police certificate states on the paper itself that it is valid for 3 months, but the single certificate doesn't have any expiration date on it.  Maybe try calling or emailing the embassy and asking.  I have called them before and they were quite friendly and helpful.

Thank you for your feedback. I finally received a response from the Embassy in CR. I really wish they would be more thorough in their instructions. Also they made a comment that I scheduled the interview before they received the petition. It's currently "in transit". They just said I might have to reschedule if they don't receive the case by the interview date (already knew this).

For your information, the validity of the single status certificate of Costa Rica is 3 months. If you are Nicaraguan you will require the single status certificate of Costa Rica and the single status certificate of Nicaragua (from Registro Central de las Personas, no from the Alcaldia and the document must have the apostille certification) for the K visa application.  Please note that all the documents from Nicaragua must have the apostille certification.

Thanks for sharing that info. My fiance will probably have to get a more recent one by the time he's able to schedule his interview.

Hola, pura vida!

Quick question, for the I-134, did you guys use tax transcripts or the actual 1040? I have my transcripts for 2015-2017, but can print off the 1040s if I need to. Thanks in advance!

Transcripts are always more wieldy.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Hey guy! Question

how many days (approx) does it once the NVC sends the package to the embassy?

For how much time is the D160 valid once you complete it?

How fast is the embassy giving the appointment and visa?

A look at the VJ Timeline Search shows recent K1 cases taking about 5-10 days from departing NVC to arriving at the CR embassy, and about 7-14 days to receive the visa after the interview.

I think the DS-160 is valid as long as the information you put down is still current.  It doesn't have an official validity period.

I made an account and signed onto the site for booking appointments on Oct 31st, and it showed Nov 5th as the next available interview date, so it doesn't currently seem to be much of a wait.

K1 Filed 1/12/08, had visa in hand 4/9/08.  I guess they got slower.  LOL  When my  fiancee went thru CR in 2008, I think we may have had the fastest k1 in CR history (at the time).  46 days from filing to approval.  From NVC to Consulate took 2 days.  And then after interview, picked up visa in 3 biz days.

But back then, you dealt directly with the embassy staff.  If you called, you spoke to one of them.  There was no call center to make appointments and for questions.  It was much more streamlined.   And visa was picked up, no DHL or whatever service they use now.

Hi PuraVida group! My Tico husband and I just got our I-130 approval today (11/06/18)....SO HAPPY THAT FINALLY THAT IS OVER! We are now waiting for the case number from NVC and then for the consulate to receive the case so they send us an appt. Has anyone here had experience with how long it took after their NOA2 to get to NVC and then to the consulate in San Jose? Then how far out was the interview date. :)

Hi guys!!!

Need help!

do you know if you can use scanned copies instead of originals?

Please say yes :)

I never send originals unless they request them. I copy everything even the pictures. and always keep a exact copy of the entire package you send in.

hey all my wife and I were married yesterday Sept 23rd and now will file for AOS. I am a bit concerned that the visa expires and even though I will file papers this week there seems to be no official status. For example we went through all of the hastle of getting her Michigan drivers liscense and now it will expire this week and technically she will not have a MI drivers liscense and will revert to using her CR liscense I guess. I also am concerned that if there was an issue there is no way of proving that we are in compliance other than having a copy of the marriage certificate. Praying for a quick AOS and a smooth process from here on out.

Don't be concerned as long as you are married before 90 days and you are filing AOS she is fine. I send my package and today received bio letter app. You have to remember fiance is getting married to a US Citizen and that makes them immediate relative under the law. Just follow process and you will be fine. Good luck!!

but you did get a letter from the NVC, right? like with your case number? I might give the NVC a call then to see what they suggest. THANK YOU! I love having this to be able to ask and get info.

I'm mailing my 1-134F and supporting documents to my fiance in CR, any tips on the best way to send it? I was planning for FedEx, but I could use some advice. He lives in a pretty rural town so his mail goes to the post office. All pointers would be much appreciated!!!
