Things to bring to Naturalization Interview

Hello fellow VJ'ers!

I finally have my naturalization interview date, set for Thursday October 4th at 7:15am at the Seattle USCIS office. Are there any additional items/documents that should be brought to the interview that are not outlined in the appointment letter? My one thought is that, since I have applied for my citizenship, my husband and I have had our first child. Would it be advisable to bring our son's birth certificate (original or certified copy?) to the interview?

I unfortunately don’t have any advice to give, but I just want to say I’m so happy for you! I applied for my n400 through the Seattle office as well (July 2017), and it makes me so happy to see people actually getting to the end of the journey! ❤️

I am sure you aren't far behind! I was technically August 2017 as that is when USCIS officially "received" my package, though I sent it off in July. Good luck to you! Where in WA area you?

Columbia City, Seattle! Yeah, even if I am a little behind that’s ok. I’m just happy to see cases moving forward. The office seemed to grind to a halt for a bit.

• Your Green Card (formally known as Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card)
• A photocopy of the front and back of your Green Card
• Your driver’s license or state-issued identification card
• All current and expired passports or travel documents  
• Copies of your tax returns for the past five years (or three years if you are married to a U.S. citizen)

As a rule of thumb, I'd bring everything i think that might do with immigration..even if that includes my couch, lol. Best to be over prepared than under, plus the worst that can happen is the IO not asking for it. Better than getting an RFE at the interview. 

 

In order words, bring everything you think is necessary....just make sure to arrange them accordingly so as to be well prepared......Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had the joint I-751 and N-400 interview.  We took everything that was listed on both papers (originals with copies). Basically we brought updates to the paperwork we had already sent in (more recent joint bills, checking account statements..tax receipts).  The only thing asked for was our Tax Receipts.  If we had to do it again, we'd still bring all the same info as we don't know what another officer would have asked for.

I just had my citizenship interview last August 31 and got approved. I brought all the original copies of what I submitted during the N400 process including our son’s birth certificate and marriage certificate, plus of course, interview letter and green card. The IO didn’t ask any of the certificates at all just my gc and that’s it. But I really feel at peace if I bring every paperwork I have just in case the IO ask for it I’m prepared  Best of luck! Yes, another form of identification was not mentioned on the letter, but it you have an online account, USCIS mentioned that you need to bring another form of identification. see below:

 

One way or another you really have to bring another form of identification.

Yes she has online account but it still second form of ID was not mentioned at all.

Online account shows case history and documents ..but no instructions.

Well, I always followed whatever written online and on letter, because that's what they want and with that, we need to follow because that is the only way USCIS would know if you're qualified for citizenship or not.

Beside even if they mentioned second form, as long as it is listed then it's required.

I do understand, I guess your friend did not understand, because even USCIS did not mention to bring state ID on the letter, but they did mentioned on the online account that you have to bring.

Again below is what written online WHAT TO BRING, if it's listed then its required. It's a matter understanding which one is required or not, and at the end of the day if they don't listed as required they do ask sometimes so we should be ready to bring more evidences.

This is the instruction on the N-400 form:

 

If you are a lawful permanent resident, you must submit photocopies (front and back) of your Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card. You will also need to bring your Permanent Resident Card and a state-issued identification such as a driver’s license to your interview with USCIS. If you have lost your Permanent Resident Card, attach a copy of any other entry document or a photocopy of a receipt showing that you have filed the Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card.
