Hi guys,

Our case was sent to Nvc yesterday........finally. Just curious about green card cases at rio consulate. Do they mail you your passport with a visa to get in the USA and then you receive your green card in the states, or do they mail you your green card to you address in Brazil before you enter the states?

thanks for the help.

I think all 3 of us couples are on this site. Possibly all 3 will interview the same day. NVC says ready and the last I looked the shipment has made it to Miami. Just waiting to hear back from my  fiancé on setting up the interview. I'm so excited!!

I have been trying to use the DHL hack but it is not working for me.  I have been typing it in exactly the way it says here on Visa journey but it rejects it. Do you have any tips for me?

I think yours probably hasn't left NVC yet. The next shipment is the 29th. I would check on the 30th, and hopefully then it will show that it's left for Rio.

Thank you,  But how do you know the next shipment is on the 29th? Just based on experience?

The Google doc link has the send out dates. It's at the very end, number 20 lists the dates for 2019.

Well, you are in a thread dedicated to K-1 visas. So I doubt anyone here except of course GREENBAUM would have that knowledge. Once you are approved at your interview and the visa is issued the embassy has specific instructions in what to do to receive the visa. Once you have the visa in hand, pay the immigrant fee at USCIS so that your green card will be ordered for processing upon your arrival in the USA:     https://my.uscis.gov/uscis-immigrant-fee/

I'm trying to get an average number of days it took to receive the Visa in Rio de Janeiro if you opted to pick it up versus having it sent in the mail. My fiance lives many hours from Rio and is contemplating waiting for it. Thanks!

As already said. You’re applying for a visa, which will be stamped on your passport and endorsed upon entry (i551?), valid for a year, which is proof of permanent residency and acts like the green card.

but to receive the actual green card, you need to pay the immigrant fee after your visa issuance. You’ll most likely get a paper info sheet from the consulate with the steps to take.
Remember to check which address they have on your case file upon entry, as they will use that one to send the green card

Hey everyone, long time lurker here. Your collective information has been vital - thank you!

So, our case is in transit and shifted to "ready" the day after it was sent from NVC (Nov. 13th). We were able to schedule our interview for Dec. 3rd.

Of course, we don't have any notification from the consulate in Rio, but that seems to be ok, right? We just need to make sure we have all of the docs/information ready and then we should receive the pack from them before Dec. 3rd?

That is what we did and all was okay.   We had a very positive interview experience in Rio.
