Grants by definition, are a form of socialism.

Grants = Transfer payments.

seems everywhere is socialist.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I think most people (Republican and Democrats) believe Bush's "Mission Accomplished" banner was inappropriate and in retrospect probably even he thinks he shouldn't have done it. Maybe I'm wrong with that.

When did Obama say that ACA fixed everything? Did he ever say "Health care is no longer an issue in the United States!"? That would be a similar equivalent statement. I'll wait for that quote if you can find it.

I agree we are off to a good start. But I still would like my President acting like a President.

Bush's Mission accomplished banner huh ?

Bush never said Mission accomplished . In fact he said "Our Mission continues and we have more difficult work to do in Iraq". direct Quote

He also didnt hang the banner some PR officer on the ship did as it was related to the ships mission

More nothing burger by fueled by a biased press and digested by a gullible low information non critical thinking populace.

Direct quote from President Bush:

"Admiral Kelly, Captain Card, officers and sailors of the USS Abraham Lincoln, my fellow Americans, major combat operations in Iraq have ended." (http://www.nbclearn.com/portal/site/k-12/flatview?cuecard=215)

Tell that to the majority of causalities in Iraq, which occurred after the speech. He was premature in the way he reported our success, and it was inappropriate and irresponsible.

If you want to talk about "nothing burgers", go visit the thread about "Spygate". That's the biggest load of nothing out there right now.

Military History does not seem a string point.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

They absolutely did not end then. We had troop surges long after his little speech. We had the vast majority of our loss of life after his speech.

I'm not going to add up the number of operations listed there after May 2003. It should be obvious.

The key word is Major.

Can you please provide a reference for the EXACT distinction between "major combat operation" and "combat operation"? From an official US military source.

We had more troops, and more loss of life, in operations after his speech. It would be an insult to those we lost to argue that major combat operation ended in May of 2003.

I guess this wasn't a major combat operation?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Battle_of_Fallujah

If not, then that title is fairly meaningless and arbitrary.

I'll patiently wait for the official definition of a MAJOR combat operation. Since you pointed out that is the key distinction, it must have a very clear cut meaning.

GWB used the term correctly.  Major Military operation is "usually: a coordinated attack  across several fronts with Division  size units coordinated between all four branches lead by a single commander.

as opposed to limited or special military operations which is what occured after that point in time. Loss of life does not define the scope of the operation, and of course the next phase of the war lasted much much much longer so casualties mounted.

But I thought we were talking about Bush's banner which was a nothing burger, I think you switched the scope of your argument

I was talking about what Bush said and presented at his speech.  I don't care what PR agent decided on the banner, he was the key speaker and highest military representative there. It falls on him. He also overspoke in his actual speech (what we are talking about here).

Also - I asked for sources. I see many operations after 2003 being labelled as a major combat operation (including Fallujah). If that is incorrect, I'd like the official distinction from an official source.
