Why would someone not be looking if there, are more jobs than people.

There are a handful of reasons. The top two are:

1. Aging population. Boomers are retiring so its natural that the participation rate drops but....

2. Its dropping more than it should. They key demographic are males without a degree - skills mismatch.

We haven't been able to hire any new employees for a year. This is partially due to housing costs vs wages.

At the end of 2015 when the federal bureau of labor had the unemployment rate at 5.0%, Trump claimed the "real" number was at least 20% and possibly as high as 42%, citing all the people who were not counted in the labor dept statistics. Just curious what number we are using now. The article doesn't really specify.

I think the other poster was referring to people that have just stopped looking because they could not find work, which was a problem back when there were far more lookers than jobs .

You can tell people are working that would not otherwise be working, by some of the absolute wastoids you encounter in retail today

The U-6 rate is at 7.3% right now. It was at 10.3% back in 2015. Where the rest of the 42% go?

Obviously the 20% and 42% figures were pure BS, but that's the inherent problem with alternative facts. Eventually you have to reconcile them with reality, and often, that's when things no longer add up.

Can you name one politician ever that has not exaggerated the truth.

All I really care about is the economy is red hot, ISIS is now really the junior varsity,  we are on the verge of true peace in Korea.

I recall Obama saying it would be impossible for us to hit 4 percent GDP.
