  • 1 month later...

We met on StumbleUpon over a year ago. I sent her a message regarding her user name since I found it to be very cute and interesting, in a strange sort of way. :) She said it meant "bellybutton" in her language but that was far from the truth. Thankfully I was chatting with a friend that spoke a little Bosnian and she told me that the word for bellybutton in Bosnian was "pupak." My friend wrote me a line or two to forward to her and she became very excited when she thought I spoke her language, not knowing I was being fed lines by my friend like in Cirano di Bergerac. After a couple of months of messaging we graduated to chatting on google talk, then talking on google talk and now we're engaged. Who could ever imagine that this could happen? Now I'm desperate to be with her and growing more desperate with every second that passes.

we met in a chat room randomly. at first we hated each other. we'd known each other for about 5yrs before we actually met. it would have never happened but he somehow got my phone number and called me a week before I moved to London. he didn't know I was moving. I thought this is too nuts we must meet. we've been together since

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

Met on the Penny Arcade forums.

We both joined in 2003; it was about half the size back then, and rules were a little more relaxed. The chat forum allowed members to post photos of themselves, which, as bored teenagers and early-twenty-somethings, we did. Alex saw my photo and thought I was cute and in return posted his and I thought he was cute, and he seemed a pretty sweet guy judging by his post history, so I messaged him.

That was early 2004 and we weren't looking for people to date, just to chat! I was living with a boyfriend at the time anyway. We got on really well, though, so we ended up chatting nearly every day.

2005 and I realised that I wasn't going to be with the boyfriend forever; we shared no goals in life. In 2006 I moved out with a friend and made arrangements to meet Alex, on a 'what if' basis.

i chose message board...but we actually first talked on a chat room started by the message board for a band that's from my local area called breaking benjamin back in 2004. when someone asked what other people's hobbies and interests were aside from rock music i reluctantly answered figure skating and he was intrigued-that i had the guts to say it...(not so much with figure skating! lol) and started to IM me....we talked for hours and then around 9pm my time he went to bed but told me he'd see me the next day...i've heard that before...never expected it, but he came back the next day! i don't think we've not spoken for a whole day since then! we met irl about a year later.

Mark was a long-standing member of breakmanx.com which is a gaming-related site run by one of his best friends from college. I joined in... the summer of 2004 I think. Anyway, he'd not been around much because he moved away to live with his girlfriend in another state and I actually had a bit of a crush on someone else at the time as I was coming out of a very bad marriage and leaning very heavily on another mutual friend for emotional support. Mark's relationship had taken a nose dive and he was online more and I remember noticing him first because he defended me on the forums against this other guy that was always making inappropriate comments to me.

About six months later he had decided to move back to Kansas and was getting involved with the online game show associated with the site. We were all in the site's chat room during the show and he was looking for feedback on what he'd just said on the show and I made some comment about my attention span not being long enough to really take in the whole thing. One of our other friends kicked off to me about it, so I messaged Mark privately to apologise in case he'd taken offence. After that we would chat online whenever we were both on and then we talked a few times in group skype sessions with other friends.

A little after that one of our friends (the one I'd previously had a crush on) deliberately left us alone on skype together... and we talked for almost seven hours! We'd both been badly hurt by our previous relationships and gave each other a lot of mutual emotional support. Before too long we were ringing each other up on the phone as well as talking online every day and became best friends. I wasn't particularly attracted to him at first, and I don't think he was to me either, but as we got to know each other we started to fall for one another.

I was really worried about it becoming anything more because I couldn't bear the thought of losing him as a friend and I was feeling very uncertain about romantic relationships in general. He'd also vowed never to have a long-distance again, but apparently changed his mind over me.

We started dating and I arranged to visit him the following summer so that we could attend the wedding of mutual friends together and spend some time together to confirm how we felt... and I knew as soon as he put his arms around me at the airport ^_^ ~ Hannah

Both of our best friends are Smashing Pumpkins geeks and became friends on a Smashing Pumpkins message board. My friend went to Vancouver to see Billy Corgan with her friend, and she tagged along. I saw the pictures and thought she was hot, so I started messaging her on Myspace.

At first, she had me confused with another friend of ours and kept ignoring my messages. Then her friend told her one day, "Billy thinks you're pretty." She asked "Who's Billy?," and Ana sent her the link to my profile. Then she put 2 and 2 together and we started talking.

I am a moderator on a large forum for a big rock band that shall remain nameless.

My SO happened to go to one of their shows in England and bootlegged it. He was just a casual fan of the band, but it was a great recording, and he wanted to post it on a fansite for serious fans fo enjoy.

Well, one of the other members started to harrass him about something stupid, and he contacted the Mod on duty at the time (me!) for help. We started to message each other on the forum, then moved onto YIM. Our first YIM converstationlasted over 6 hours, and that was that! (L)
