Hello everyone!

I know this might be a long shot, but my great grandfather was a US-Soldier, stationed in Austria after the 2nd World War.

I never got to meet him, not even my granddad knew him, as he was sent to Korea soon after his birth and never came back. So I was wondering if my great grandfather being American would give me any advantage in acquiring an American citizenship.

We also have the documents confirming that I am related to him.

I currently have a double-citizenship with Austria and Ireland, thanks to my dad being Irish. It's also thanks to him that I am fluent in English. I'm not sure if this is important information, but I added it, just to be sure.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Your grand grand father citizenship does not give you any advantage. Sorry but you have no right for US citizenship right now - it would only work if one of your parents would be citizens and could pass it on you.

IF you grand grand father would be alive (impossible but this is just example) then he could sponsor your grandfather first, then your grandfather once he'd acquire citizenship word sponsor your father and then your father would sponsor you.

A grandparent can actually pass citizenship even if not alive anymore, I'm not sure about great grandparents though.

Citizenship through grandparent is only possible if:

- the application is made before the child turns 18

- the parent is a USC but cannot transfer citizenship due to not having lived in the USA long enough

- the grandparent meets or met (if deceased) the presence requirements in the USA

- it does not apply to great-grandfathers

So, on all 4 counts the OP does not qualify.

And the intending individual needs to have entered the USA before citizenship can pass

YMMV
