Enough time for connecting flight? POE MSP with 1 hr 30 min layover

I read the reviews on MSP as POE and all the reviews seemed to indicate that going thru is really quick.

Mom's flight connects from there to Newark with only 1 hour and 30 minutes to spare.  Is that cutting it too short? 

The next flight available has a 3.5 hour layover and I didn't want her waiting so long.

I am not too worried as there are many flights to Newark from that airport but I'd love to hear about your experiences. Thanks!

Last time I went through Newark coming back from being out of country, I got there, got through customs, then had to exit the terminal, transfer to domestic terminal (tram is outside security not inside) and the line to get through security again took about 1 1/2 hours.. No joke. Both times I've gone through newark the domestic side can be an absolute nightmare.

 

I would recommend the 3.5 hour layover.

She could be waiting a lot longer if there are slow lines and/or delayed arrival causing her to miss her connection.  I would play it safe with the 3..5 hours.......good luck.

August 7, 2022: Wife filed N-400 Online under 5 year rule.

November 10, 2022: Received "Interview is scheduled" letter.

December 12, 2022:  Received email from Dallas office informing me (spouse) to be there for combo interview.

December 14, 2022: Combo Interview for I-751 and N-400 Conducted.

January 26, 2023: Wife's Oath Ceremony completed at the Plano Event Center, Plano, Texas!!!😁

February 6, 2023: Wife's Passport Application submitted in Dallas, Texas.

March 21, 2023:   Wife's Passport Delivered!!!!

May 15, 2023 (about):  Naturalization Certificate returned from Passport agency!!

 

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

We connect thru MSP quite a bit and are well familiar with the airport.   I would recommend the longer layover.  That is not giving her very much time to go thru immigration,  collect her luggage then go thru customs.  Last time we came back from Romania we entered at MSP and while immigration was fast, getting our luggage and going thru customs took a long time.   3.5 hours won't seem like that much extra time by the time she does all that, finds her connection and uses the restroom!

I'd suggest the 3.5 hour one as well. The 1.5h one is possible, but risky IMO.

Im so tempted to fly to Manila to be able to fly back with her I don't have anymore vacation days!

I think changing it is a great idea. Last time we had less than 2 hours due to our flight being delayed out of Amsterdam and we almost missed our connection.  We were both traveling with US passports and literally ran to catch our connecting flight.

I would opt for the 3.5 hrs,   1.5 hrs is cutting it way to close for clearing POE (immigration & customs)
