My status never changed either, but make sure you're using the "new" website: https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov/

The other one doesn't work anymore for me (and many others too).

same here biometrics were waived off but status didn't update on the "new" website.

Hi there,

Has anybody here been outside of the country using an expired green card and I-797 Notice to travel?

I have some questions to ask you if I may:

1. Do airline ground crews recognize or understand that an expired green card and I-797 are accepted?

2. At the US airport, when you put an expired green card to a machine, is the machine recognized right away?

Thank you for your answers.

Yes I just got back about 1mth ago.  Absolutely no issues at all...apart from when I left NZ to return to USA!  It was a small regional airport I departed from and they obviously hadn't seen an extension letter before so I had to explain and they checked up and after that no issues.  So you shouldn't have any issues at major airports only possibly small airports where they may not have ever seen it before.

No issues entering an expired card into the machines in USA.  It prints you a receipt just like usual and you take that plus passport and I-797 to officer and he took one look and on we went! :)

My wife and I took a cruise last month. When checking in she used her extension letter and no questions asked. When we returned, a funny thing happened, the immigration office looked at her green card and didn't say anything about it being expired and we hadn't pulled the extension letter out yet and he waved us on and said "welcome back".

Last week we went to Indonesia and checking in with American Airlines, showed the extension letter to the lady checking us in and she knew exactly what it was and had no issues. I don't anticipate any issues when we return next month.
