For us, we actually started planning the wedding before we realised how lengthy the visa process was

We met whilst living and working abroad, and got engaged during a trip to the US where we decided we might as well start planning and looking at venues etc... then we spoke to a lawyer who said "Yeah, no problem, you'll have visa in hand in about 6 months." HAH.

Luckily, we actually planned the wedding for late May this year, which is a full year from out initial application. I have my interview Wednesday, so fingers crossed!

It's going to be a relatively traditional (non-religious) British/American style wedding and I feel incredibly lucky that a lot of my family and friends will be flying out to join us.

Honestly though, if we'd known what we know now, I think we would have eloped to the mountains too!

Good luck on your interview! I'm glad the wedding plans turned out alright. Man that would've stressed me out like crazy!

My wedding plans were quite simple.  Get approved and fly to the USA.

We  flew to Las Vegas and got our marriage license.  They are opened from 8 a.m. till midnight everyday of the week they never close and don't recognize any holiday closures.

I had and Elvis Presley impersonator marry us at a Wedding Chapel, he sang 4 Elvis songs during the ceremony, it was pretty cool.  We had a few friends we brought with us to be there.

Got done, and rented a Helicopter and did a flyover of Las Vegas at night.   I enjoyed Las Vegas from the air much better than being on the ground

A part of me would really love to do that as that just so corny and cute and romantic. But I'm afraid I would regret doing it that way later. I'm really happy it worked out so well for you though.

I'm not a city person but I would love to see Vegas once.

Don't waste your time going to Las Vegas.

It is overpriced, and they have all the streets barricaded off and you have to walk a lot to go anywhere on the strip.  Las Vegas used to be a cool place and very cheap place to gamble and have fun.

They have turned it into a major tourist trap and it is overly expensive as well.  MGM owns almost all the hotels on the strip and you have to pay a 'Resort Fee' on top of your hotel charges to stay at most any hotel and resort fee is about $30 to $40 per night on top of the price.

Years ago you go to Las Vegas and it was a great deal, You could get a Prime Rib Buffet  and see a show for $10, now of days shows cost about $100 and a buffet is $30 per person.

Go to Mexico - Do an all inclusive is much better.

Since we are in Texas we go to Cancun area quite a bit.

Chris: There is no way that a person on a K1 should be getting married in Mexico. They shouldn't be honeymooning there either until they have travel authorization, and even then, they ideally should be staying far outside the border as possible.

I love this thread! We'll be doing a courthouse wedding too at first, when my fiance gets here. And this is the dress I'll be wearing!

There's no use in trying to plan a big, elaborate wedding, especially at this stage, and I just want to be married as quickly as possible ahaha.

So pretty, this made me remember I still don't have a dress for the courthouse! An excuse to go shopping this weekend I guuuueess :)

So much same to both of these... We were supposed to elope at first, but family guilted me so now I have to pay for them too, yaaaaaaay! The super crazy thing is that we were planing a Spring wedding at first - and we're August filers! Thank goodness we didn't do that.  But I feel like I've lost enough hair at this point to make a wig :jest:

Very nice trend!!!

First we weren't planning to do anything but both moms got the puppy eyes on us and got to be very persuasive that in the end we shouldn't let this hole process take off the beauty of this next step of our lives.

The plan is get married as soon as we can when I get in the US at the courthouse and later 2-3 months have the hole ceremony and reception stuff (as someone point out it will keep me busy as I wait for the WP and Parole).  I know that we can find things really easy in US but here i knew where and how to find it, there will make a hole new world for me to get supplies and caters and all that.

Pinterest will be my closest friend, I presume as my search is really getting focused on simple and on a budget wedding.

Yea same.  We will have to do the ceremony later due to the stress and financial drain of this process so far. :(
