We're in the same situation (except NOA2 date of 1/19). Also, to clarify, on Wednesday, they were closed due to severe winter weather in that area, so no matter what time you had called you wouldn't gotten a hold of them

That's funny, when I called today (twice) they didn't mention their system being down. I wish they would have told me, I thought it was up and running and they were just dragging their feet with getting our case number.. <_<

Anyways, here's to hoping we (and all of us in this situation) get a case number soon!

We've had our Case Number now for 6 days....status still says at NVC, no letter in mail....so, it's not moving to Rio, yet.

Will government shut down stop cases from being mailed out from NVC to the consulate?

Will interviews still proceed?

Hate to be this close and stall now!

good to know. I'm hoping to get a case number today or Monday - were you able to scheduled interview yet or does it have to wait to get to Rio embassy... and the DS160 -- have you filled that out yet too or you have to wait until its in transit

I heard that they were having some technical issues at NVC but I think they resolved it. I just called about an hour ago and received my case #!

NVC assigned my case # the same day they recieved it! They have been SUPER quick lately!!

Does anyone know if there is a NVC app like there is for USCIS?

what the heck. they still keep telling me I have to wait 2 weeks. and I told the guy that other people have been getting their case numbers same day, they have been assigned one over the phone even and hes like that's impossible.  can you tell me the rep you spoke to?  I'm not having this BS.

PS: my two weeks is up on Monday

SO I just called and spoke to someone who transferred me to someone "higher" and they refused to accept that people are getting their case numbers this quickly... I told her that someone (you lol) recvd NOA2 date 2 weeks after mine, and got your case number same day that NVC received your case 3 days ago and she was in shock.  and she argued with me that it takes 2 weeks or more and that they are behind, and shes unaware of any cases taking that short of time .  she wasn't hearing me that your case recvd noa2 after me and went to NVC after me and received a number before me. she kept saying that its because you have been waiting longer and I'm like no let me explain it for a 40th time... and she just kept saying I'm unaware of any of this there are still people waiting longer than you.... sorry for the rant. its just a little frustrating. I don't understand how they do things and she couldn't tell me . the hand isn't talking to the foot at NVC either.

I don't remember the reps name but they didn't assign it to me over the phone. Basically, I called on Monday and the rep told my that my WAC number was not in the system. I just politely thanked him and hung up. Then yesterday, I called and gave my information. The rep told me that my case number was assigned two days ago. I politely asked how I could get my case number and she just read it to me out loud.

Since they didn't have it on Monday night, I knew they received it and assigned a case number on the same day (Tuesday).

right, I understand. buy @vocaledge was assigned and given one over the phone when he called weeks ago..(the rep said she could assign it for him while he was on the phone) .so regardless, they are giving people NVC numbers in much shorter times than two weeks ( I'm not complaining) just wondering what the reasons are that some get it quicker than others because its clearly happening.    I came with facts and she just kept denying them and she just wanted to argue with me (mind you I was VERY soft spoken and polite - I'm letting out my frustration here bc I couldn't with her.. but she immediately had an attitude with me and seemed inconvenienced that I was even asking about it) her name was hope and I'm sure she is the overseer of a bunch of them .

I'm sorry you had such nasty reps.  I heard a rumor that basically incoming NOA2s are put on each workers queries (this tends to be based on date received). So those who got a case # assigned the same day it was received was put on a short much shorter or empty query that the worker was able to complete. Unfortunately, you might have been put on a longer query or a query with a slower worker, etc. I'm not sure if this rumor is true but it makes sense to me.

I don't have a ton of experience but I did notice, when I called during the day, the reps were short/seemed really busy. When I called at night (6pm EST), I didn't even have to wait. The phone immediately rang and a rep picked up; he seemed much less busy and possibly more willing to help.

we haven't been able to register (we get a verification email that asks for embassy letter interview info) (website says do not register until you have a letter from embassy - of course we tried anyway)

can't schedule interview or medical until embassy letter or embassy "ready"

all we can do is access, complete and save DS-160..
