Hi everyone!

My fiance and I were just approved for our K-1 visa last week and will be heading to the USA together in a few short weeks. I've been looking ahead to the continued SWAMP of a process- that is the Adjustment Of Status (I-485). This website is super helpful with timelines, FAQs, and access to proper forms, but I have a few questions.

1. The (I-485 AOS packet) is $1,140 + $80 biometric fee...to confirm....does that fee cover the (I-765 Employment Auth.) when you include it with the packet? Or do you have to pay the additional fee for each application? (I-765 = $410 ) I read it IS included, but just want to confirm with those who have more experience.

1a. We were thinking of also applying for the Application for Travel Document (I-131) in case of any emergency, would that fee also be covered if submitted under the AOS packet?

2. At our POE (Point Of Entry) will they give us anything back from the packet we present? Particularly things that need to be submitted again- like a birth certificate with English translations, or the DS3025 (medical/vaccination history) that needs to be presented to a civil surgeon. Why do they need the same exact things over again? Ahhhhh!

Sincerely,

Someone trying to save a few thousand dollars :P

When applying for the I-485, the work permit and AP are included in the fee when filed together.

At POE the immigration officers will take the packet hand carried from the embassy. It is good to always have copies of things like birth certificates. You will need to submit a copy of the medical report and birth certificate(translated also if needed) and such in the AOS packet.

I-485 = $1140

Biometrics = $85

I-765 = $0

I-131 = $0

Total = $1225

It's rare to get anything back at POE and/or USCIS. So never ever expect to get any originals/certified copies back. Get more certified copies of birth certificates etc, they will be needed. That and the DS-3025 for the AOS.

1. Enclose the EAD application WITH the AOS I-785. There is no additional charge

1a). Enclose the appliction for the I-131 WITH the AOS I-785 if you can. Use the VisaJourney application guy for K1 to print out the relevant reasons for the Travel Document.

Note: The EAD and the AP (advance parole document AP) are both on one card.

2. You get a lovely CPB Stamp with the works K1, Your Alien Registration number written on the stamp together with the expiry date of your entry (90 days from entry).

Hope this helps
